Two trains collided head-on this morning in Pavas (La Sabana Sur). Eighty people were injured, including three that were sent to the hospital in serious condition.

Ever Since they started running the trains again two or three years ago I have marveled at how few accidents there were; especially considering there are no lights nor crossing barriers anywhere and in many places the tracks run right down the middle of the streets. Up until about a month or so ago there had been almost no accidents. Over the past few weeks accidents have become an almost daily occurrence- accidents involving a car or truck, pedestrians being hit, and now two trains in a head on collision.

I have ridden the train here a couple of times between San Pedro and Cartago. It has been a very nice, comfortable ride; quick and relaxing, and brought back memories of my childhood when I rode the train several times in the States. And it is very inexpensive--barely over a dollar each way. After the last few weeks I am not sure I want to repeat the ride!!!!

Seeing the lack of gate arms at the railroad crossings and lack of buffer between tracks and car & pedestrian traffic, I am not surprised there are a lot of train accidents with vehicles and pedestrians. But a head on collision? How are 2 trains on a single track heading directly at each other and no one knew? :?: :?:   I don't think these tracks have switches to swap tracks. Someone in scheduling phucked up
