Post subject:  A Monger Ponders Christmas

Friday as I sat waiting on my return flight from a business trip....

I don't like most holidays, Christmas in particular.  I'm Scrooge and the Grinch all rolled into one, times 10.  I suppose it's because of what Christmas has become, capitalism unbridled - store decorations going up before Halloween, black Friday camping, 'tis the season for your new Lexus... and beyond.  It soured my spirit ages ago.

Waiting at LAX I stewed over: losing my CR phone number due to inactivity, the ahi tuna at lunch that was over seared, and the $12 glass of chardonay poured short.  Dreading boarding, I knew too well that the odds of sitting next to someone who has bathed this week are probably 100:1.

Of course to pass the time I perused my CR contacts on Whatsapp and Facebook.  I rarely interact but enjoy the photos and status updates.  Many I've met only in passing or plugged in a number from foro or some other source.  Then I encounter a post from an individual whose rates I've seen go lower and lower, while the services offered get more and more extensive.

Basically a plea to God for shelter, food, and something that vaguely resembles Christmas for her little one.

Hard luck cases are less than a dime a thousand dozen.  Many stories are just that, stories.  Fiction in a land of fantasy.

So what?

It spurred a bit of perspective.  I was raised by two parents who gave me every conceivable advantage within their means.  I've been able to enjoy many successes as a result.  I love Latin America but the quantity of fatherless ninos is stunning.  Don't want to be present as a Dad?  Whatever, but find a way to provide.  Yes, that cultural reality drives supply, but let's set that aside for a bit.

So maybe like in the story of the Grinch, my heart suddenly grew 3 sizes?  Probably not, I have no moral high ground here, my scruples are questionable and nobody would describe me as altruistic.  We recently lost Don Gordo.  Never met the man, but I'm struck by how many described him as kind and caring.  Didn't appear to take away from the fun he had.  So, I'd like to take up a presonal challenge.  Maybe you'll join me.

Pick a person you encounter and treat them as if they are a friend having the absolute worst day of their life.

I doubt any of us will be worse off for the effort.

I do it often.

And if it involves money (or sex) , I ALWAYS get my money's worth in return. :)

I think he means doing it out of kindness, and not looking for a return, Rac.

I recently spent time with a nica who was in CR to work (working girl), and she was explaining to me how shocking it was that so many young CR chicas already had K*ds. She seemed to think (or know) that it isn't that way in her hometown of Managua. Now, I have never been there, nor to any other Latin American country (other than a 4 day visit to Colombia), so I have no idea if the single mama thing is rampant all over the place, or if it's just seen in the hooker hovels that we tend to gravitate towards.

BD - you have my intended meaning.

I suspect Rac got my meaning and was simply inserting a bit of levity.

Either way, thanks for reading.

Yeah.......I got the meaning very clearly.

When I said that I ALWAYS get my money's worth in return, I was including the times when the only thing I get in return is the satisfaction of doing the right thing. That is often INvaluable...... priceless.

One example is when so many of us helped the ScoreS employees who got screwed at Christmas last year....... when Orange stepped up to coordinate the effort to help.

Rac is well known for his philanthropy in handing out chopsticks to needy HDR chicas. Well Done, Rac!

My experience is the greatest returns are when I am not looking for anything in return. The recipient of the kindness may not be the one who returns something, but I receive it in other ways from others.

I did note that Rac stated IF it involves money (or sex).

I've learned that the best measure of a man's character is in the things he does for somebody else when nobody is looking.

The one doing the good deed & his God!

This is a great post HottDogg.

It often....no...always amazes me that when most people do a good deed, they have to shout it from the highest mountain top to get attention to let everyone know what a great person they are. The most altrustic person is the one that does the good deed & does not seek attention or their moment in the sun!

@hotdogg:

Evidently you're just now figuring out what a shallow, hollow, vacuous endeavor killing your own soul is by frequenting the birds of the night? Come on....."......Of course to pass the time I perused my CR contacts on Whatsapp and Facebook. I rarely interact but enjoy the photos and status updates. Many I've met only in passing or plugged in a number from foro or some other source......". Waxing sentimental by looking at pictures of these birds? What? No family? No outside interests aside from your tallywhacker?

Hold on for the remainder of the ride because, and do trust me,: It gets worse.

Cracks from the peanut gallery? Somebody needs to drop the dime on you and send your self indulgent woo woo from this message board to your old lady and such. Diatribe indeed. What a sorrowful existence you must lead as you slip in and slip out of one bought and paid for cunt to another; all the while living in fear (apparently) the Mrs. is going to discover your pitiful ruse. Funny shit! :P Me? I hope you're chicanery passes from you to your offspring. Surely it is being absorbed within your unit!! :P

Since you're Mr. Self Disclosure, lay it out here for all to read and see: Do you want your own daughter being a bird of the night or using gigolos due to her more than likely inherited ineptness with human relationships? What's good for the goose is good for the gander, eh?
