I have a credit card with a chip that I use all the time. The chip fell out. Does anybody know if I can glue it back in and it will work? Yes, yes I know I can get a new one, but I live here in CR so getting a new one has complications. This is a Chase issued Visa card with no fees and gives me miles so it's an important asset.

I never had that happen. If you don't want to order a new card right away, give the glue a try. If it works, great. If not, call your bank. I've had new cards shipped to me here in Colombia free of charge. Not all of my banks... just my Chase Explorer Card and TD Bank. Do you have mail forwarding service back in the States?

My guess is that you can glue it in and it will be fine. It doesn't look like there are any other electronics attached to the chip. The only precaution is to have it oriented the same as before it came out. I do not have a Chase card with a chip, so I cannot help with how it is oriented.

Just as an aside: If you are going to be permanently living in Costa Rica, I would consider getting am APDO. US Mail is delivered directly to the APDO at the main post office in SJ. This certainly makes life less complicated when you have inbound mail from the US.

YES you can glue the chip in and it will work fine. Also all chips are orientated the same way so if you have another card with a chip you can use it to verify the position. I do not have my wallet close so I cannot look at mine to give you a heads up on it but if you need me to share the orientation with you just post a reply on this thread

I glued it in overnight. I'm pretty optimistic it will work. there are only two ways it can go in, following the way the chips are in my othercard. So, it may be upside down.

Looking at my Chase chip card you cannot tell which way is up so you have a 50% chance you got it right.

Most US chips cards also have the magnetic strip. In colombia they always run the chip. Back here in costa rica the stores still swipe the card. Even if you go inside the bank and use the teller to get cash they swipe the card.

Now when i use a scotia bank atm i get a message that the chip is being scanned.
Even if the chip does not work the card should be good to go as it still has a funcional magnetic stripe.

You are 100% correct. Minimal problems thus far in Costa Rica.

Not totally. It's in upside down, but most places still swipe the card. Only problem I had was today at a lunch counter at mercado central.
