One of my customers is a missionary. She teaches and councils Ticas in the dangers of drug and alcohol use. I spoke with her freely about what I do while visiting CR. She gave me the hairy eyeball at first, yet said as long as I obey all the laws of that country she didnt see anything wrong. I sponsered her last year. I will get more details of her Mission and post them. Im just seeing if there is any interest.

My thoughts and experience remind me, "No good deed goes unpunished".

We are villainized as a group. "They" attempt to group us in with sex predators, traffickers, and any other group that is illegal or sounds deviant. And nothing real or good is going to change that. So we or anything we do is going to be unfairly crucified.

99% of women hate prostitution. It relegates them of all the pussie power. They try to make it illegal or dirty.
You must keep in mind one thing. Women hate us. As a group, we have busted out of their confinement. They had the market cornered on sex. We are about 1% of the male USA population (google the statistics). The other 99% of men (after being lashed for not finishing their honey-do list ) only sneak to their computers late at night and jerk off to the girls we know personally.

Its fine to sponsor missionaries or orphanages or anything else. With that being said, any connection to "us" or this website is a bad idea.

Some very astute comments here, hitting on different issues. After my first visit to CR I was sitting at home reflecting on my trip. I had nothing short of a revelation that my social life was no longer limited to the constraints of Canada. Spending a winter somewhere warm, with an abundance of attractive women became something I could look forward to down the road.

In terms of sponsoring/donating, I try to give a little money each Xmas. Last year the Medellin Mansion had an Xmas drive. It is easy for any of us to make a completely anonymous donation. Whether or not the money actually reaches the people who need it, is the biggest problem.

I will be down there this weekend on my own personal mission trip, putting money directly in the hands of needy unwed mothers so they can buy milk & diapers for their young ones!

The Angeles de Medellin Foundation accepts gifts from many mongers. I don't think those who run foundations such as that set any restrictions on who can donate. The people receiving the support definitely don't question the activities of the people who helped provide it.

As was demonstrated in the Scores employees' fundraising, many mongers are generous when it comes to helping others.

BTW, the Angeles de Medellin Foundation is operational all year helping the youth of Medellin. I think their main charity drive is at Christmas, but they do that year-round.

Herein lies the biggest issue I have with charities. Most non-profits are actually very profitable, just not for the poor and needy. Research shows that on average only 10% of the money donated goes to the intended recipients. So when you send your 66 cents/day ($20 monthly) pledge, about $2 goes to your "adopted" Ch*ld in Nicaragua. The rest goes to the fat asses sitting in the "charity" HQ, administrative costs, and to pay for more commercials.

This is why the few times that we ran any kind of a charitable collection, it was given directly to the people it was intended for, to the extent possible. When the big earthquake hit CR, we just donated to the Red Cross since nobody knew victims personally.

What research? I realize based on the number and tone of your post you think you know everything about everything. With respect to many of the commercials you see on TV the networks and local TV or radio stations donate the time as a public service so the donations are not going for that purpose. In addition in order to be tax exempt charities have to meet certain criteria with respect to amount of money raised actually going for a charitable purpose.

Like anything else there are good legitimate charities and there are lousy ones. If you are going to donate money and your not sure if the charity is legit take 5 minutes and do some research. There are a number of websites that evaluate charities and other non profits that will let you know if they are good or bad.

Research is not the correct word. I should have said statistics. It is widely known that most money ends up in the places other than with the people they are trying to help. Then again, jet fuel is not cheap..

As for knowing everything, it depends. 8) But in this case, I know what I'm talking about. I work in financial services, and currently being one of the directors (non-paid) for a 501(c)3 charity based in Latin America, I'm very familiar with the IRS rules and policies to get tax-exempt status. There are some many expenses, write offs, "administrative" costs, it's a phucking joke. But I'm glad that you have so much confidence in the big beaurocratic IRS and their oversite.

I do not want to belabor the point. But when you make a blanket statement that you cannot substantiate why even attempt to make the point ? Post your statistics please. Widely known by who? You? Like I posted before there are some very good charities and there are some that are mostly bs. If you not sure do a little research before writing a check.

"Know it all" ? You have an absurd amount of post most in the same "know it all" tone. You know about every topic under the sun. In the very near future you will become the #1 bloviator in CRT history. An accomplishment 10 1/2 years in the making. Congrats !!!

Put in proper perspective if a person signed up for CRT today and posted an average of 5 times per day it would take them more than 6 years to reach your post count.
