During a recent trip I noticed the growth of the craft beer industry in CR. Sometimes called small batch breweries. There are several locations and I would be glad to post more information if anyone has an interest. sure "imperial" is the national beer but if you are a fan of ipa's or barleywines or the like i have some intel.

"may your craft beer not interfere with the reason you are here"

Go to the Costa Rica Beer Factory in Barrio Escalante. Great bar with a wide variety of beer.

Anyone ever stopped in the Stiefel Pub on Ave. 7, just a little east of casa amarilla & parque Espana? They're supposed to have quite a selection of tasty craft brews.

There is a local joint around the corner from La Amistad that serves local craft beer, which is really good. The place is nice with good food. But, be prepared, no one working there spoke English, but I was able to get my point across for my order

If you were walking up the street from the SL toward LA you would walk past LA and follow the sidewalk to the left and its about 200' up on the left
Don't even need to cross a street

I saw there is a craft beer tour out there which ends at the Stiefel Pub. I plan to try it next time. Sounds like a decent place for lunch. Supposed to have good chicken wings. They have a site on FB.

My acquaintance, JT, who owns Kayas Place in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, just started Bri Bri Springs Brewery not that long ago. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment on the quality of his beer.

I will say that the ones that SL has are pretty good. I drank a 1/6 barrel keg myself in 3 days and introduced a lot of guys to the fact that there was beer on tap at the SL. Bill If you really want to promote it, get the girls to give shot glass samples to the guys drinking beer.
