Thre is a huge (50 unions) strike for the whole day on Aveneda 2. I assume they will close most of the downtown. Hmmm now who should I call to get me thru the day.

Jeez ... the chicas aren't unionized yet, are they?

Hopefully they're not out on strike as well.

Much ado about nothing. Everything normal. At least after 11am.

This has happened before with media warning s of tie ups, "presas" and street closings. But nothing really big pans out usually.

What they don't tell you is that the majority of the problems are when trying to come into Chepe from the East!! Every time there are protests, the major streets coming in from San Pedro are closed. It can, and often does, become a mess! Last two times I have tried to come in to Chepe anyway-took 3-4 times as long. Today I just stayed at home!! My neighbor said it was a mess and she had to go 8 blocks out of her way to get to downtown.

BB57 can you find out if the train was affected? Might be an option in the future.

No, the trains are not affected! Do not think anything affects them!! My understand is that everything is suppose to move out of their way and not impede their movement! For me the problem is the hours they operate. The Cartago train stops about 4 blocks from my house and the final stop is at Parque National. So it would be a very good option anytime except it runs only in the mornings till about 10am and afternoons during rush hour. I seldom come or go during those hours. I have ridden it from Cartago a couple of times and it is not a bad ride nor experience at all!!

Here are some pictures of the protest yesterday in today's Tico Times.

The paper also said there is a national strike planned.

BB57 I read also that the train cut back on one of its departures. Can't remember if it's the one to Cartago or Heredia. I've taken the Cartago train and its a pleasant and inexpensive ride.

From all I have heard from my neighbors it was bad getting around in down town and east towards San Pedro. Anyone who saw it differently must have been only in the areas west of hospital de Ninas or north of Ave7 or south of Clinica Biblica. Ave2 was closed from the "Nica" park east to C25. Ave.
as was Central from C9 east to C25 and Ave.1 from c11 west to c23. And Ave.3 (north side of Parque National) was virtually impassable. Ave 4, 6, 8 were also a stop and go traffic jam. All of this according to several of my neighbors.
BUT, by noon apparently, as stated in the warning statement, most was back to normal. But in that area "normal" is not good!!!!!
Glad I stay at home!!!!
