I tried searching but couldn't find anything. What do people usually wear weekend nights in Jaco. Is it too casual for a button down, jeans, and boat shoes. I am thinking like a nice regular shirt / collar polo type shirt with jeans. Any insight.

You will be fine wearing that ensemble. When I was there in February, there were many people wearing shorts and tee shirts to the Cocal at night. I recommend a nice shirt and jeans or shorts. You will be fine

Native dress is best. A grass skirt, pasties, and if you can manage it, a bone through your nose.

Do NOT carry a spear. That is very insulting to the locals.

I was thinking the same thing

An 'affliction' t-shirt, or one with a similar design, can be worn in place of the Hawaiian shirt

Unlike San Jose, where shorts, t-shirts& and sandals are a no no, in Jaco, it is acceptable.

I have worn shorts and t-shirts in Jaco and in San Jose. In San Jose I usually stick to tennis shoes. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. You are not going to blend in as a local...That being said you could definitely do sandals with socks, a Hawaiian shirt, a fanny pack, and a stripe of Zinca on the nose.

... and then a quick trip down to Calle Seis for an $18 blowjob, and your next of kin can sign for your remains.

Seriously, that may be cool in Jaco, but if you plan to wander San Jose to see the city, don't dress to be a target.

When I pack for CR I only think about being comfortable. That in mind and a pocket full of $100's has never been an issue.

I usually wear jeans and a polo or Tommy Bahama shirt at night. But during the day depending on the weather and time of year I usually wear cargo shorts. There is nothing wrong with wearing shorts in San Jose. I have friends that live there and when they come downtown to visit me they are usually wearing shorts.

Who says they're a no-no? You only hear that shit from gringos who live in San Jose and think it will make us stand out. But the truth is that our pasty white asses are what makes us stand out.

Ticos have no problem with tourists wearing t-shirts, shorts, and sandals.

BTW- in Jaco, forget the jeans and button down shirt. You'll be sweating your balls off 24 hours a day and will want to wear as little clothing as possible. And loose fitting clothing. It's a bitch town for God's sakes, leave the tux at home.

I can't believe we are re-visiting this subject again. Most foreigners stand out no matter what you wear. So as long as you are not dressed like a douche bag you will be fine. Because blending is not working. I wear shorts and golf shirts 95% of the time here and I have no problems. Of course when shorts are not appropriate I do not wear them.

<------Still OG'n it with cargo shorts......... 8)
