Does anybody know how late the duty free shops are open at the San Jose Airport? I'm hoping to get a bottle of Stoli gold and some cigs' before I "arrive". :P

Is the Duty Free store the place to buy a good bottle of rum ( I hear Flor de Caña mentioned on this board) and some good cigars ( and they don't have to be Cuban)?

The one downstairs IN THE BAGGAGE CLAIM closes at 9PM.. the upstairs ones till 10...

Many rums to choose from, depends on your preference an they are quite cheap... The upstairs Duty Free's before you go through Immigration have Cigars, Cuban and or otherwise. Personally the Romeo & Julietta Cubans for $7.00 each in the tube to preserve freshness are the best deals there... You know they are authentic and they are as good as it gets

Do they still close at those times?

Hit or miss on closing times but the times mentioned are in the ball park. Few flights getting in that late. But, a super idea, load up on as much booze as you need, all different kinds and qualities available, I forget the limit but it's more then you'll need; and smokes if you do, mainly Marlboro, and cigars but i don't have a clue on cigars. Dirt cheap.

Can't help with the hours but here's something on the limits: http://www.anywherecostarica.com/articl ... toms-entry
My advice? Buy up to the limit--any full bottles/tobacco you have left over can easily be resold to, say, a CRT member.

The Duty Free in the baggage claim was closed on Wed, 11/14 due to construction. This was at 1245 pm. Not sure if they're back open yet.

Rum, si, cigars, no - not a great selection and the prices are high (Sorry Admin 1   )

Try the cigar shop at Hotel Little Havana; better selection and better prices

I did not notice that  and normally I do and normally I blast idiots for responding to 7 year old threads.

However, this was a good, fair question, and as hours can change, worth bringing up again :)

On Fri 11/16 it was open again. It was open after 10 pm with a line out the door, but there was a huge stack of liquor boxes outside waiting to be stocked so that might have been why they were open later.
