Must be an airline specific issue with Spirit. SJO is open as of early this morning. |

bandon843 wrote: Must be an airline specific issue with Spirit. SJO is open as of early this morning. I read this to Jerry out loud, and he laughed and said, "There IS an airline specific issue with Spirit. The issue is that it's Spirit Airlines!" He was pretty busy last night getting folks re-booked and postponing their transportation to the airport. A lot of guys got to sleep in this morning instead of riding to the airport at 4:00 a.m. ---------------- All of the airlines are affected. Nobody can help that the volcano erupted. The difference is that Spirit's business model doesn't handle schedule disruption very well. As Rico1040 said, "We have Friday available." I am sure that a lot of Spirit's customers have heard that line today. I talked to Jerry about booking a ticket on Spirit a couple of years ago. He told me, "Please, Lyle. Don't. Just Don't. Please." Spirit is cheap. I get that. But the ticket price isn't the only thing that is Cheap about Spirit. ----------------- The biggest difference? All of his clients that were supposed to fly between the USA and San José today, both directions, are all already in the air. |

although 100 flights were cancelled today, spirit did not handle their plane reassignments too well. Solution; paying a little more with jet blue tomorrow. i will make up for it by re-negotiating some fees ( lo siento, chicas ) lol |

The best way to see what's happening in general the SJO Airport is to check their website. Arrivals: http://www.fly2sanjose.com/front/pt9.php Depatures: http://www.fly2sanjose.com/front/pt8.php Looks like most airlines have recovered for today. The Spirit flight from FT LAUDERDALE is canceled. Others have some delays. |

From the board at the airport this morning, Spirit was the ONLY airline to cancel their flights today. Not a single other flight showed cancelled. SJO airport was closed less than 12 hours on Monday so no idea why Spirit has cancelled flights Tuesday and Wednesday as well. Hope they aren't trying to use the volcano as an excuse for other problems so they don't have to compensate people for the delays. |

Maybe Spirit is at the bottom of the importance list with them. There has to be a reason, and I am not so sure it is Spirit's decision. Why taxi out only to come back. That costs money. Easier to cancel it at the board. oh, and am really sorry to hear of your guys with canceled flights. I hope it all works out for you. |

Yeah it sucked. Here is what happened. I think Steve might be right about Spirit getting bumped I arrived in Lauderdale this morning for the 10:46 flight to San Jose. Everything was normal, no mention of delay or volcano activity. We board the plane and its full because of yesterday's canceled flight. Seat belts on and we head towards the run way. That's when the captain comes on air and says we need to return to the loading bay because their is too much volcano ash in the air. But he says stay seated as we might just be a delay. Once we are back at the loading bay, he says it's official and the flight has been canceled completely. Back inside the airport and people are irrate, as most passengers know Jet blue went already today with no problem. American Airline is flying to San Jose no problem. I say next to a couple on their honey moon. spirit definitely sucks. Oh well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Stillsingle- that just sucks on so many levels, I have a few questions out of curiosity. Did you have to go through the usual Immigration line, or did they set up something special to bypass the line? Did you have any issues claiming bags and bypassing that process as well? Lastly, did they offer assistance in re-booking for later? |

We came back to the terminal of entrance (thus bypassing immigration). I did bring any large luggage (only had small carry on). But others with luggage were instructed to go back to luggage carrasel and get bags. After this, go to ticket counter. Since I didn't have any luggage, I went straight to the check in/ticket counter after departing the plain. My options were a Monday flight or refund. Or They could have flown me to Panama or Nica Land but I she didn't tell me that until she refunded my cc. Maybe I should have went to nica land for the first time. Who knows.
