With all the recent activity of the volcano would you cancel your trip? Or would you go and take your chances?

I'd say go...even with all the activity, the airport was only closed for a bit over 12 hours on one day and a few hours yesterday. Other than that, no effect on anything tourist related whatsoever. At the worst, it might delay your departure a day or two and is that so bad?

Not a bad place to be stuck. I keep hearing the big explosion is coming and I am not sure how bad that will be. I just don't want to have to try and leave with 7,000 other people.

Turriabla is a long ways from San Jose....not likely to be a total disaster. More like times with a lot of ash falling...but not a direct danger to life.

As long as my flight can land I don't mind. If I can't leave, well l could think of worse places to be stuck! (Detroit in the middle of winter?)

It has not stopped anyone that I know of, who are planning to come down, cancel their trip. A safer bet is to buy travel insurance with your ticket purchase. Come on down, have fun, hope it erupts and get stuck. You should be so lucky.

Zeos, as the crow flies, Turrialba is only about 40 miles due east of San Jose. NOT a safe distance from an erupting volcano, IMHO.

Agreed, the biggest problem. like it was in 1963 when Irazu exploded, is the volcanic ash. Could shut down the airport for days or even weeks.

Our flight got cancelled Friday so we're stuck until Tuesday. Apparently, JetBlue doesn't play well with other airlines. Our choices were to wait until Tuesday or get a refund. I decided it would be a good time to try the Mona Lisa with the special. The airlines put us up at the Wyndham for one night. My wife and I are at the ML now. My wife spotted 2 girls she liked at HDR, so I had my first foursome. Best plane I ever missed!
