We have all heard the horror stories of missing/stolen personal items after a chica leaves your room. It's sad, but it's an everyday occurrence. Let's be honest, some of these gals are opportunistic and will quickly pocket anything of value that may be laying around. Whether it be an ipod, liquor from the minibar, or something as simple as a toothbrush. Some guys would argue that they are able to weed out the predatory gals through the initial interview process. They say it's a certain sense or feeling they get about the chica, and can tell whether or not she will steal. This may be true to a certain degree, but by no means is it an accurate indicator of the chica's predisposition to steal. IMO, given enough temptation any of the gals (even the best ones) will resort to thievery. Other guys have the "if it's not locked down, it's lost" mentality. They put away/hide everything... razors, toothbrushes, clothes, towels, etc.. Some mongers I know would go as far as to chain luggage to furniture. That being said, there is a fine line between caution and paranoia. I'm cautious to a reasonable extent - I don't carry around large amounts of cash or my passport or my credit card, I use the room safe, I put away my toothbrush and razor, and I always put away a couple of towels... we all know how these chicas love to use up all the towels! Common sense goes a long way... I don't leave my ipod out and the safe open while I'm in the shower and the chica is "waiting" on the bed. Ha! What measures do you go through to "chicaproof" your room? |

I try not to be overly paranoid about gals taking stuff. I keep valuables in safe and keep an eye on girls when they are in my room. Athough on my last trip I did have a gal use my toothbrush. I wasnt too happy, as I dont know if she might have bleeding gums when she brushes, as she doesnt know what problems I may have in my mouth. Needless to say, I bought a new toothbrush. These girls dont know what problems we may have with our bodies, as we dont know the same about them. In my opinion it is all a crap shoot. We need to take what precautions we can with our valuables and physical safety. |

As the OP pointed out, there are different degrees of "chica proofing". I keep my money (except for pocket money), my billfold, my camera, and my passport in the safe. I usually don't stay at hotels that stock the refrigerator. In Costa Rica, my phone is usually in my pocket. Almost always, I have extra new toothbrushes, so if the chica needs one I give it to her to keep. The only thing that anyone has ever taken is a box of Tic Tac breath mints. ![]() |

I lock up everything I don't want to lose or isn't easily replaced. Do I go as far as locking up my shaving kit. No, it is too much of a hassle. If something comes up missing, it can be replaced by a quick walk to the Mercado. I use to work for a NGO and traveled to some real shit holes in Central America, Asia, Africa and the US. I learned to only worry about my passport. I never travel with wads of cash, fancy watches or phones. I never wear jewelry. Its just common sense. Why make yourself a target? |

I learned to only worry about my passport. I never travel with wads of cash, fancy watches or phones. I never wear jewelry. Its just common sense. Why make yourself a target? Now!! someone finally came up with the right answer!! If you don't bring what you do not really need and you keep ALL valuables locked up all the time (except when in use, naturally), you have eliminated 90+% of your potential problems. Often I see guys here for a week with tons of un-needed crap. Talked to a guy recently who had (for a 6 day trip) brought a regular cheap phone, a smartphone, 2 tablets, a notepad, and a laptop, a music player, and 2 sets of speakers. ![]() ![]() ![]() That said, I live here and after many years I have accumulated a lot of things that would be impossible to hide or lock up every time I had a chica over. So, no, I do not put anything up out of sight-everything stays right where it normally is. Things like cash, passport, credit cards, etc. are always in a safe place. In all these years I have never had anything of value taken! Yes, I have lost a bottle of body cream, maybe a toothbrush or two, a shower cap or two=things that I actually keep here for the chicas and give them when they leave. I buy good but cheap tooth brushes usually about 20 at a time for about 50 cents each; shower caps for 25 cents each; small bottles of body cream for about a dollar. I keep these here just for the chicas. hell I will often even give her tooth brushes for her K*ds if I know she has K*ds. I will admit that living here I have the advantage of being able to "get to know" the chica more before inviting her to the house than guys just here for a week do. But many guys who come here will see a beauty and 2 minutes later they are off to his hotel room. (again, WTF ![]() ![]() One last comment: The original poster made one comment, "Given enough temptation any of the gals (even the best ones) will resort to thievery" ) I do not know him but I sure do feel sorry for him and anyone else who feels this way and has such a low opinion of these chicas! That statement JUST IS NOT TRUE! Yes, there are many that will steal, but there are also many who will not under ANY circumstances; and to say ALL will is just not right, and makes me wonder why anyone would associate (for any reason) with people they think is going to steal from them!!!! JMHO!! Hell, some of my regulars I have even left in my house alone while I went to the store for a coke, more beer, or whatever!!! My computer, often small amounts of money, maybe a watch, a phone, etc., etc. were in plan sight every time. I have had many chicas that ended up spending the night; hell I have even allowed several to stay with me for a few days or even weeks at a time when they were in a bind for a place to stay or just because I and/or they wanted to. Any chica spending the night could easily get up in the middle of the night, load up on valuables, and be gone without me knowing it till the next day!! 3 have even had keys to the apartment ![]() ![]() |

No need for anyone to feel sorry for someone expressing their opinion. We all express our opinions on here. Doesnt make one person right and the other one wrong. I dont recall original poster saying ALL the girls will steal. The way i read it, he was saying any of these gals are capable of stealing. Not all do. Most of us dont have the luxury of getting to know these gals really well. We are generally on a short trip. But, as in everyday life, you might feel you know someone fairly well, and they can turn out to be snakes in the grass. I, like many others, would probably give these gals items if they asked(within reason). But, if something doesnt belong to you, and you take it without asking, that is stealing. Whether it be a $100.00 or a toothpick. Just my thoughts. |

To my way of understanding the English language "any of the gals" means or implies "all". Maybe you have a different English language, but to me "any" means "all inclusive"! Would be the same as saying "Any American will eat steak if placed in front of him"!! Simply not true any more than saying as he did "any gal (referring to the "working chicas" here) will steal given the opportunity"!!! At least neither is a proven or provable fact and should not be stated as such!! AND he did not say "capable of stealing"; he said "WILL resort to thievery "! ANY human being is "capable" of stealing, but that does not mean that all humans WILL or would steal!!! If he had said "capable" I would have no problem with his comment! And yes, I do feel sorry for anyone that has such a low opinion of a group of other people. |

19 trips soon to be 20 nothing has ever been stolen. yes I lock up valuables but there are always little things. Trends I have read about on crt stealing(PPRICES ) Usually relate to guys trying to get services for as cheap as possible. BB is correct IMHO when he says get to know them a little it definitely helps |

The short answer: I always chica-proofed my room before inviting a working girl in. I was a little more lax with favoritas, but always kept the stuff I didn't want to lose inside the safe and hid the key. (Once in awhile I would forget where I put the key. ![]() ![]() Trust is something to be stingy with... because temptation can even make a "good girl" do bad things. So, take away the doubts and excuses... it's best to remove the temptation, and lock it up if you don't want to lose it. And it's not just the working girls you need to keep an eye on. Here are a couple of examples of what I am talking about: Years ago, I dated a bartender who worked at one of the gringo watering holes in the gulch. We had become close and I spent the better part of my trips to CR with her. We did road trips to Puerto Viejo, Perez Zeledon and Arenal and visited friend and family in SJ. It seemed like we had chemistry... and I thought I knew her well, so, I gave her a degree of trust. Both of us spent a week in Puerto Viejo... it was a regular "luna de miel." I left my wallet out in the open when we were in the room... I realized what I was doing, but felt comfortable enough not to lock it up every time I made a head call or took a shower. About half-way through the trip, I noticed that smaller 1000 & 2000 colon bills were becoming scarce inside my wallet. I counted my money to make sure it was all there. Pretty much, the money was in the ballpark of what I thought I had. I chalked up the "missing" bills to inattention and failing memory... ![]() A more recent example of inside pilfering just happened to me before Christmas. I've been living in the Medellin area for the past 4 years. The year round spring-like weather is wonderful, but when you have two open-air balconies, dust accumulates quickly on marble floors, furniture, shelves and countertops. My wonderful paisa wife does a great job of keeping the place clean and ship-shape, but it consumes a lot of her time and energy. I finally convinced her that we should bring in an empleada to do the heavy jobs at least once a week. I know a young, attractive morenita from the barrios who had proven herself as a maid for visiting gringos. I had known Laura for almost two years when we hired her. As far as I know, she never took money for sex, and worked diligently as a maid and was a reliable employee with great recommendations. She is tall, strong and hot, but kind of on the shy and quiet side. She was exactly the type of employee we were looking for... someone who worked rather than talked and who was physically able to tackle the tough, heavy jobs. We started her out at 35,000 pesos ($14 US) per day, but quickly bumped her up to 40,000 pesos because of her exemplary work. My wife liked her a lot, and wanted to help her out. As Christmas approached, my wife asked if we could afford to give her some more days to help her with holiday shopping. I did not have a problem with that as long as we could keep her gainfully employed. The first sign of a problem occurred during the first week in December (although we did not attribute it to our maid). My paisa niece was staying with us at the time, and has a poor track record for holding on to smart phones. While Laura was busy cleaning, my niece approached me with a panicked look on her face and asked if I had seen her smart phone. I told her "no." Very quickly, my wife, the nieces and an amiga were searching the house, rifling through linen and clothing, checking the garbage and recycling containers and searching between the creases of the furniture. Five different people had searched the living room furnishings, but to no avail. My wife sent the maid to the bodega on the second floor... this allowed her to discretely inspect the maid's backpack. However, my wife did not find anything out of the ordinary. The group left the living room, leaving Laura behind, to scour the bedrooms one more time. They returned, and one of the girls ran her hands through the cracks of the sofa for one last time. She produced the elusive cell phone from within. How did it get there after a dozen hands combed every nook and cranny of that sofa? Nobody knows ![]() Afterwards, we talked about the incident. My niece swore she left the cell phone plugged in her bedroom. My wife speculated that Laura had taken the phone and kept it on her person. I was not convinced, but kept an open mind. I told my wife that Laura had on tight clothing, and the phone would have been easy to spot. ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess we had enough evidence to confront Laura with her iniquities... but we didn't... we did not say a word. There were no accusations, no yelling... no arm waving just silent disappointment and ravia. When our employee returned from the errand, we simply let her finish up her duties (under watchful eyes, of course). My wife dropped Laura off at the Metro station and slipped her 40,000 pesos for the day's work. When Laura asked what time she had to be at work on the following day, my wife told her not to bother... we did not need her help for the party... nor did we need her services anymore. Laura was taken aback... but did not ask for an explanation. There was no need for one. ![]() I asked the guys who had previously used Laura services in their short-term apartments. All mentioned that they had little things like cologne, razors, toothpaste and candy disappear... but they never suspected Laura. All of them assumed that it was the "working girls" who took the stuff. ![]() ![]() My wife and I take reasonable precautions to protect our apartment from theft. Whenever someone we don't know that well, or who comes to work in our place, we lock up our valuables and cash in the digital safe. But, as we found out, what we may consider mundane and without much value, may be "valuable" to a closet ladron with a penchant for theft. So, keep your stuff locked up... and avoid the drama. ![]() |
