Post subject:  Luggage

My bag got shredded on the flight down. Not worth repairing.

Any suggestions on where I can pick up a decent piece of luggage?

Go to Walmart, went there on my last trip, almost the same as the states.

If you are cruising in Mercado Centro, look around there. Mostly roll-aboards, backpacks and the like. As a matter of interest, what kind of compensation did the airline offer? Did your clothes get ruined too? Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

And yes, Pequeno Mundo does sell luggage thou it is not the best quality in the world. Will probably last a few trips to CR!! and is cheap. As mention, WalMart and Mercado Central plus there are many stores downtown (especially around MC) that carry (mostly cheap) luggage. Universal has better quality (and much higher priced) luggage.

Around the corner from Pequeno Mundo in Mall San Pedro there is a shop that sells Leather purses and other goods, they do have luggage also but the duffle bag I bought to go to the beach was a little pricey but it is also better quality than most.

If the bag is not in too bad of shape and you are going to check it on your return flight they can wrap it in plastic at the airport entrance. Pick up a new bag at a decent price when you get back home.

That's right, I forgot about that. From what I recall it is about $6.00 or $7.00 to shrink wrap it.

Did you file a claim with your airline?

Why not try a Pawn Shop in downtown San Jose. The ones that have all the stolen cameras at great prices. They might have luggage as well.

Yes. Exactly. And if it's totally unusable, a cheap canvas duffel should do you. Better quality, bigger selection, cheaper price back home, I'd think.
