Obama is supposed to announce at noon today that he will open an embassy in Havana, and recommend to Congress that the embargo be lifted.

I know this is not about Costa Rica, but I think it will reach a larger audience in this thread.

very interesting. I hope it happens.

But injustices of the past still need to be addressed.

The ball has always been in Castro's-Cuba's court. The embargo could have been lifted years ago if Castro was willing to give up his dictatorship. All that Obama is doing is surrendering to Castro.

I am on the fence about this issue, but I am leaning towards Obama's position. (Damned, that was difficult to write.) I respect Marco Rubio's position, and I think he comes to that through experience; but, as Obama said, the embargo has been in place for more than 50 years and not much has changed. I think conditions in China have improved because of open commerce.

I'm looking forward to going there legally and helping the economy of some of their ladies!

Yes... looking forward to exploring Cuba... legally. I've been there four times... but only to Guantanamo... while I was in the Navy. :( Maybe Obama will leave something positive behind in his legacy.

All I can say is that if a U.S. president goes to Cuba, the secret service better pay the putas this time. Otherwise I am not holding my breath for this event.

Read again. No tourist visas. More visas for nationals, medical studies and business. Really no change for now

'But injustices of the past still need to be addressed."

Does this refer them or us? Not wanting to start a political thing here, but the main thing that I think is important is that the policies have not worked, and the Cuban people, who really couldn't give a damn about politics, are the ones who have suffered the most. Time to move on. My guess is that this will open the flood gates of change with the availability of internet alone. Yet my biggest concern, is that with the opening of eventual travel to Cuba from US, and all you guys heading down there, my girlfriend will look like a human pin cushion when you guys get done

As I am an amateur gynecologist, the medical studies visa may work for me. Seriously, I think that if tourist visa are granted, the prices there will rise dramatically.

Where is Cuba Dave's posting on this? He's been going to Cuba for years and I think he lives in Key West. Come on Admin 3. I understand that you and Cuba Dave are buddies. Ring him up and ask him to share his ideas. :?:

We just need to persuade Bill to open an Havana based Sportsmen's Lodge. :D It happened in Medellin so why not in Havana?

I'm looking forward to my "Humanitarian" trips to Cuba - providing financial assistance to single mothers one at a time and some days more than one.
