I was at SL on Halloween and checked out the make over in the original bar area. It sucks. They removed all the hats and memorabilia from the rafters and walls and put blue lighting in.
Bill, it sucks.

Just off your meds? That was 6 weeks ago.

I was there over Halloween and just came from SL 10 minutes ago. Somehow the loss of the hats made no difference in enjoying the atmosphere of the bar and/or the restaurant.

Outside of it being damn hot during the Halloween party I would say Sportsmen's Lodge is still my go to bar.

Just my opinion.

A bunch of dirty hats is decor for a bar. Great job on the make over Bill. The new, clean and fresh look were needed

I was there at Halloween and heard the make over was mandated by the local government. Seems the Ticos felt the hats were unsanitary; Maybe they saw some of the gringos that wore the hats.

I hear the local folks have also required SL to close off the roof area around the front bar and when having parties to keep the back bar new glass sliding doors closed.

Gentlemen,

Three reasons for the remodel after 10 years of the hats & pennants.

#1 Sound Abatement required by the San Jose Municipality after numerous complaints by neighbors during large events.

#2 We sell a lot of food at SL thank god. The San Jose Health Department placed a 60 day order to have nothing but cleanable surfaces in the dinning area. Hats & Pennants had to go.

#3 After 10 years the bar was looking a little sad. I thought the remodel would freshen the place up. I changed the evening lighting at the same time. If you don't like the blue lights I can adjust them to red, green or purple the next time you are in, just say the word!

Thanks,
Bill

Bill spends a lot of money to keep things good for us.

He gets a lot of our respect (and our business) for that ......... and he deserves it.

I agree. A business that stays the same (business model/decor/rules) will not succeed. You must adapt and that is was Senior Bill has done

I was there in August and even though the hats and pennants were great, the upgrade makes what is already a classy place even classier! My 1st time non-pro loved the place and was very impressed. She impressed me after a nice lunch in my suite! Gracias por todo, Guillermo, aka Bill!!

The Sportsman been through many change-over through the years - i remember when it was only the court yard rooms and the club house was living quarters - there where glass tables- benches & a water fountain where the big bar is - I would say the the hats where colorful as was the pendents but code enforcement trumps all. better to comply

IMHO: still the Sportsmen is the best place to stay in san jose
