I am once again wandering the dusty halls of CRT, and came across this interesting gem. It seems we are still having this philosophical debate even today.

To the posters on this thread: Has your point of view changed at all in 7 years?

With the exception of known questionable neighborhoods, I would not hesitate to walk in SJ during the day time. Unless I was with a small army, I would err on the side of caution, and take a taxi at night time.

BD to answer your question I do not think any thing has changed in the last 7 years. CR is not safer or more dangerous now than then. Only food prices are much higher today and airfares too to get there.

IMHO.....Walk during daylight hours, health permitting. Taxi during the dark hours. Actually there is a lot more police out patrolling the streets now than in 2007. It "is not more dangerous now" than it was before with the proper precaucions.

Taxies are still very cheap still 1,000 colones or two bucks from HDR to LA or Sportsmens Lodge, Mona Lisa etc....if you ask the price up front and you can communicate where you want to go.
