Post subject: | SL and Smoking Policies |
I haven't visited since 2009. Thinking of going back. Unfortunately I smoke and would like to stay at SL because I enjoyed it last time. I do not smoke inside my room but I would like to know if I want to have a smoke do I have to completely leave the property or is there some sort of patio? Please don't turn this into a smoking debate. |

It is not a SL policy as such; it is the law in Costa Rica. You cannot smoke in any public place-office, restaurant, bar, etc. You can smoke in your hotel room (if you have a smoking room). At the SL, if you want to smoke, you must go out side the front gate or to your room to do so. Again it is the "law of the land" not just the SL!!!! |

Thank you for the quick response. I realize it is a CR law but I wasn't clear on the law. I just wanted to make sure I had a safe place to smoke (other than in a room) while hanging out at SL. |

and I know it's not a SL policy. I don't mind stepping outside for a smoke as long as it's safe. |

The smoking happens on the sidewalk just outside of the front gate of the SL. It is safe there. (unless some loco tico takes a shot at you ![]() |

Thanks. I assume because of the law the Del Rey casino is non-smoking now too? The sidewalks outside of that place must be pretty crowded. |

Not sure if there are other places, but you can still smoke in the restaurant at the Mona Lisa. It is limited to the balcony seating and it is great to have breakfast and watch the world go by. For me at least it is reminiscent of sitting at the Balmoral or the Presidente. They also have a couple of benches out front if you do not want to go to the restaurant. All in all though still smoker friendly. |

Florida is (or was--this answer is from 5 years ago) split on the issue: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 703AA2GQYX Also, does "No Smoking" in CR mean e-cigs as well? After all, all you're emitting is water vapor... |

Is that a new law that just went into effect on this Jan 1 cuz I remember seeing smokers in the SL or was I just delusional and blinded by the chicas, which is a VERY STRONG possibility. |

Blinded by the chicas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To be honest, I am old, senile, retired, and living here (so time is irrelevant) and therefore I do not remember exactly when the law went into effect, but I am sure it has been at least a year. |

Last year was my first year, and there was no smoking in the lounge, only the rooms. It's still odd to see smoking allowed in rooms when most of the world has moved away from it. Even 5 star hotels in Latin America still allow smoking in the rooms. |

I honestly don't mind the banning of smoking indoors because it makes the place stink. As long as there is a nice place to go outdoors to smoke I'm more than happy to do it. |

Here's a start: http://www.air-purifier-ratings.org/Bes ... fiers.html << I have 4 in my modest dwelling since even nicotine addicts don't want to breathe yesterday's stale smoke. |
