An old friend of mine has written a book. Everything you should know about Latin America and what motivates them to be who they are.

The best $2.99 you will every spend regarding getting into their heads and also taking a hard look at your own:

I read it, liked it. It turns out, I am a disillusioned old fool, following in the footsteps of thousands of other disillusioned fools But, it is so damn much fun!!!

I bought this book and I am about 40% of the way through it. Very will written (expect for a few typos, "loosing" when it should be "losing"--ugh), and a very informative and concise history of Latin America.

His theory about why Latin America has not built the same types of economic and social institutions as northern nations -- Latin America did not have an industrial revolution -- was very interesting.

His discussion about some of the cultural mores -- those who make it to the middle class can't quit honking their car horns -- was both somewhat funny and illuminating. And his discussion about their driving patterns -- yikes.

Looking forward to the part where he gets to the chicas. :D

Overall, a strong recommend so far. 8)

Cheers,

TD

I contacted the author and told him what I liked about the book. One thing I discussed was that he did not emphasize the upside and fun and exciting elements of the hobby. He focuses more on the folly of the hobby. He responded that he assumed his target audience would be experienced mongers.

I just re-read the book after my last visit and now consider it a true and good resource for the hobbyist.
