Guys, help me understand this. CAFTA could not have caused this by itself.

I just saw in Florida Trend Magazine that in 2012 Costa Rica ranked 5th just behind China as a Florida Trading partner. Wow! There must be more $$ going to Costa Rica chicas for their RFMs than we know about.

I would have thought China would be first on the list with all of the Walmarts we have in Florida, but in fact Brazil was number one, followed by Colombia, Switzerland, China and then Costa Rica.

Perhaps Brazil is number one since many of the Florida-based tomato, strawberry and citrus growers have moved their growing operations to Brazil. However, I don't understand Colombia or Switzerland even being on the top five list. Surely we don't drink that much coffee or buy that many watches. I'm shocked that Japan or Germany were not even in the 2012 top five, but both were in 2002. We buy a lot of cars from Japan and Germany.

Florida imports #1 China, #2 Japan, #3 CR. However exports and imports combined are the rankings you see. Florida exports #1 to Brasil, 2 Swiss, 3 Venezuela

Anyone who thinks this Site is just about Topic A needs to be shown this Thread. Do the above export/import figures include that great driver of biz, tourism? Because, for example, Air Berlin has a goodly number of flights to/from the German area every week (that was a surprise to me, too). Also, RFMs were mentioned in passing but how about remittance payments to the folks back to Latin American countries? Lastly, Latins in general and assuredly some Ticas/os are monsters in the South Florida Real Estate market. End of hijack.

Much of the trade with Colombia is related to floral industry, nearly all flowers are imported from Colombia and Ecuador via Miami. Costa has a lot of agriculture ( bananas) and aquaculture(tilapia).
