Even if you have credit, you will lose your number if you do not add something to the account every 3 months.

So if anyone needs me to pay 100 colon to keep the account active, I will do it for free. Just send me a pm with the number.

FYI, you can topup online so you won't need to look for someone in the country you are in.

KOLBI told me last month that I needed to recharge at least some small amount at least every 120 days to keep my number.

Has something changed????

Has anybody done it online recently? I tried to do it about 2weeks ago on Masterpago but could not. My account said it had to go through some new verification. I needed to call them to verify. Talk about Tico inefficiency.

I got the same message that my account had not been verified and to contact them. I had my account verified in the past so no idea what is going on with the site. I sent a few emails and they all bounced back with the message their account is full. A friend put 500 colones on my sim but I would like to be able to access my account to do a recharge.

Thanks, I changed the thread title to 4 months. I was not sure. I just know I have more than $100 credit on my prepaid number and all the sudden I started getting a message b4 I could make a phone call.

I stopped by Kolbi and they told me I have to add at least 100 colon to keep it active. So I did.

I guess its every 4 months.

Al mierda con ICE. They suck and want you to do business on their terms. You can buy credit with a bank account, but have to touch the handset while connected to the local network in Costa Rica in order to apply the credit. How freaking stupid is that?

I think the policy is now 120 days. The line stops working after 90 days, but if you recharge within the 120 days it reactivates.

I'm not totally sure, but I think the ICE system for credit card recharge online went away about six months ago. An issue was that if you have a number you could see the name of the owner before even paying to apply the credit. It effectively eliminated privacy.

Just get a line with Claro and you can still recharge online with a credit card.

You don't need to go directly to a carrier to recharge online. One of the many places to recharge is http://www.topup.com/CostaRica/mobile-recharge/

I used topup.com, works like a charm. Put in Phone #, CC info., they call you to verify right away,

couple of simple security questions, good to go. Thanks!
