Probably for Disneys all inclusive vacation/cruise side of the business. That is a huge amount of land though. |

Today's LaNacion via google translate. http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... d%3Dimvnsa Costa Rican parents will save their money for a year to spend it on their K*D's one day at Disney World. They're over the top nuts about their K*ds. Hopefully CR will impose upon Disney a discount for CR nationals like it has in other situations--and hopefully steep discounts. |

Anyway, as the late great Irish Drifter posted, prostitution is not so much "legal" as it is not "illegal" Anywhere there are men with money to spend there will be prostitution--even in the surrounding area of a Disney property. Do not remember where I read it but somewhere it was stated that no country in the world spends more per capital on sex and sex related items (movies, books, toys, etc.) than the "puritan" (hypocritical) USA. There is no law here (Costa Rica) making prostitution illegal nor is there a law making it legal. There are laws making the profiting from prostitution (pimping) illegal. As for it being tolerated here, I would tend to think it is a little more than tolerated. Even eliminating the hand full of places whose primary business is catering to the sex tourist, there are still over 100 MPs with an average of 10 chicas per MP. There are over 150 bars with rooms and open to chicas "working" in the bars and renting the rooms. There are approximately 30 strip/night clubs with rooms for the chicas to use. Just in the greater San Jose area there are over 50 hotels where you can rent a room short time (by the hour). Almost every barrio has at least 1 or 2 or more chicas "freelancing" in the barrio (many are und***ge). There are several hundred chicas who work solely by appointment thru ads in the newspapers, the internet, and social media. The largest and most popular local web site among the Ticos is the adult section of the Foro de Costa Rica. The last figures I saw from the CR government estimated there were over 6000 women working in the profession at least part time. That is almost 1.5 % of the total population and over 5% of the females between the age of 18 and 40. Yes, the sex tourism is a small percentage, and really only tolerated by the officials. Most individuals here want sex tourism done away with. As for the sex industry among the Ticos, it is more something that exists without being talked about, and most wives seem to expect the men to partake. But it is more than "tolerated" it is big business here!! |
