More then ever really a BYO place these days. La Pescadores (right next door to Wacky Wanda's) had it going on pretty good for about 3 years, not anywhere near Jaco numbers, but pretty good for Quepos. Another gringo bought it about a year ago and he tanked it, he's in drug jail. Closed.

Now reopened as "The Double Hook" by a popular long time gringo who owns a fishing charter in Quepos. Beautifully remodeled, new bathrooms, bar, kitchen, really cool nautical art work, the whole thing is new (and he's only got a lease--no clue what he was thinking), but he ain't letting the chicas in, and he's bragging about it. The place is deader then a door nail and this is high season.

This year after Pescadores tanked, another place opened just north of Best Western named "Canatico". Owners are a Canadian gal, Shannon, who used to bartend at Pescadores (the 30-ish blond--really a good bilingual bartender and sweet) and her Tico husband.

The place took off, I mean it was jumping, packed, crowd spilling out into the street. Working girls, non working girls, gringos, gringas, fun place, hot, hot bar tenders, week-end entertainment, decent bar food. Never saw that kind of a crowd in Quepos/M.A.
since Mar y Sambra (the place on the beach which the city half tore down for maritime resons, now closed about 10 years).

But, early last week Shannon got into a pissing match about something that isn't clear to me with the local Health Department-----bim bam you're welcome mam--CLOSED DOWN!

Facebook is huge in CR,#1 social media.

That led to an ugly war of words on Facebook between Shannon and the Doctora boss from the Quepos Health Department, the "corruption" word being wielded by Shannon and her FB following. Facebook battles are never a good idea when the one you are fighting with has the keys to your door. The Doctora then posted a formal notice on Canatico's facebook page advising Canatico to cease defaming her, even citing the Penal Code statute number (for the new guys, defamation is also a crime in CR).

OOOOOOHHHHHH my dear Shannon, what were you thinking? You ain't in Calgary anymore.

Of course, the place is still closed.

To cut to the chase, a few chicas hanging around in the Best Western casino and a few in Wacky Wanda's, as long as they buy drinks in both places, but not in any numbers.

Anyway, a BYO town.
