I know it's rare, but it does happen. Why tempt fate? If you are at a beach which has a large estuary flowing in, get far away from that.

Good thing it was only a little one. A 7 foot crock in Costa Rica is only about half-grown.

That Tico surf instructor is a credit to CR.

I just looked at Google Earth for Tamarindo and you can see probably exactly where this happened.

Same for the earlier attack mentioned at Hermosa, assuming that it's the Playa Hermosa next to Jaco since the article said central pacific. I know there's another Playa Hermosa but I am almost positive it is in Guanacaste. South of most of the hotels you can see a smaller estuary then the one in Tamarindo.

i think there is another "hermosa" somewhere around dominical, uvita area if I am not mistaken.
The instructor deserves a medal for sure.
Been in the water there a time or two and never gave it a second thought.
But now.....
crocs scare the shit outta me, sneaky bastards.
It is quite the revelation when you realize you are not at the top of the food chain at times.

Turns out the "heroic" surf instructor in the initial story that claimed he approached the croc with only his board to scare it away from the Spaniard under attack was more likely then not also a "croc", but not of the reptile variety. (Yes, croc's are not amphibians by class so don't bother fact checking, I already did :D ).

First story of his heroics:

Follow up story with interview of the victim a week later:
