T-Mobile to offer free unlimited international data, texts

The latest shake-up eliminates international roaming rates for data and text messages and simplifies calling rates, the latest carrot dangled by T-Mobile.

If you're a frequent international traveler, you're going to want to pay attention to Uncarrier 3.0.

T-Mobile's latest shake-up puts international roaming rates in its sights, with the carrier eliminating fees for data and text messages entirely in more than 100 countries. It will also simplify the calling rates, charging a fixed rate of 20 cents per minute.

New and existing T-Mobile customers who are on a post-paid plan are eligible for the new international plan, which kicks off on October 31. The company also introduced a $10 Stateside International Talk and Text plan for US customers calling out to other countries. The plan includes calls for 20 cents (or less, depending on the country) and free unlimited calls to landlines in 70 of those countries.

with viber, tango, line etc etc it hasn't been an issue for me for years.

This is certainly good news for me - I can now choose to use my Tmobile SIM overseas in 100+ countries without worrying about excessive international roaming charges.

However, I've found Viber's line quality to be hit and miss, especially when I'm trying to have a conference call from Costa Rica to the States with clients. It's nice to have another option, especially one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. mh

of course you're right about the reception but it beats the shit out of skype if i am traveling or moving in a vehicle i found that a mobile hotspot makes it a lot better there are definitely dead spots, like my bedroom lol but overall i like it but if i was doing business it might be a little frustrating

It's the rate per minute for a call to a cell, much higher, as opposed to a landline that you need to watch out for. There were a couple of other little gotcha's in their full press release, like how long in a given country you could use it--eg, not avail for a student overseas, but all in all an attractive improvement.
