Gentlemen, I would like to make a Personal appeal to CRT Administrators and CRT VIP Members. Administrators please reconsider bans on long-Term CRT VIP members who have posted so much valuable information that has contributed to this site for so many years. Pretty obvious tensions have been high of late and I see some members losing their cool a bit and posting things/personal attacks that I have not normally seen from these guys. Please consider that a lesson may have been learned and that the rules of contact had recently just been posted. If they after being reinstated "do not play well with others" then....ban them. Members please realize that something needed to be done to mitigate the flaming. New monitoring of CRT was needed to check just plain rude flaming to fellow members and to the sponsors. If reinstated please try to keep the testosterone levels in check. Geez who doesn't get pissed off here at times? I can bust balls with the best of em. I get upset with some comments made about Sportsmens Lodge. Honestly I have not had to withstand many personal attacks and I try to learn from constructive reviews to get better at what we do. Use the Smack Talk section...It has been fun & hilarious for many good reason`s. Please consider this on behalf of well intentioned sponsors and the guys who may of made a mistake with the new forum rules of conduct and I that will personally miss on this forum. |

Well Said Bill! Although I don't follow the day to day threads a couple really stuck out as I've been reading them the last few hours and to be quit honest I am appalled. It was always my intention to allow the members of this site to police it, moderate it to some extent, allow the ball breaking to exist as it was good in good fun for the most part and when things got out of hand then and only then did I step in and remove the issue so to speak. This site was about the exchange of information and one thing stood alone in its thought process. A GENTLEMEN'S GUIDE TO COSTA RICA!!! The Word Gentlemen always meant just that. To conduct yourself as one. Sure there were trolls plenty of them, but that comes with the territory. It is how you deal with them that makes this place go. Banning someone for one comment is over the top and If I'm out of line The Admin or Admin 3 please let me know but there is moderation and Levels of moderation. Warnings, short time outs so to speak make your point more effective than simply throwing down the hammer. You need long time posters, you need new blood, you need lurkers, and in some cases you actually need the little pot shots to keep the pot stirred. I ask The Admin & Admin 3 to simply take a good look at the value of contributions of long time posters and if they are out of line you deal with it on a case by case basis. As for the Gentlemen of this site, You have all contributed here and if this site is to keep growing and keep evolving, the level of animosity must be brought down a notch as well. Its a fine line of asking for something, getting it (Moderation) than not liking how it is imposed. There is also a fine line of how moderation becomes out of hand with an iron fist. It has always been a give and take society that permits CRT to operate and from now and to the future it will have to be that way to survive and succeed. Remember those simple rules that have long been part of CRT! Am I posting to hear myself or am I actually Contributing something? Is this post relevant or am I adding Nonsense. Am I attacking someone or am I making constructive criticism? AM I ACTING LIKE A GENTLEMEN! Guys, Admins Etc this is your SITE Make it work - Too many years of contributions and friendships have been born here and the level of animosity I've seen is nothing like I remember... Step back think before you post and then contribute like the Gentlemen you all are! Tomas |

I have always known from day one who owned CRT. It was never a secret to anyone who wanted to know. I have no idea who owns CRT now or what their background is. Do we have a right to know? Does it even matter? Devo |

Over the course of the last 48 hours it has been necessary to ban a group of members because of their personal conduct on the forum. These members have made personal attacks against a CRT sponsor and myself as a consequence of efforts to moderate the forum. In light of the fact that moderation is a new effort and in respect for the valuable contribution of these long term members, the bans will be lifted. It is important to note, however that moderation will continue. Personal attacks, slander and violation of the rules will result in account banning and editing or removal of offending posts. As a part of my involvement with CRT, I have been asked to find new CRT sponsors and enhance our relationship with existing sponsors. A frequent objection on the part of new business to extending a member benefit is the perception of a sometimes toxic atmosphere on the forum. I would encourage all members to consider the importance of their discounts in securing a hotel or entertainment in Costa Rica. When you present you card, businesses will tend to associate and judge you according to the comments of your peers on this forum. Keep in mind that the Internet is a great deal more visible in Costa Rica, than it was ten years ago when this forum was established. Some folks have been critical of the immediate banning and lack of a warning. Unfortunately, many of those who received warning not only ignored them, but replied with hostile messages or publicly mocked the warnings in the forum. Indeed, the decision to lift the ban on the existing members is not an easy one. To date, no one who was banned has offered an apology or admitted that their actions were wrong. We are making this concession in the interest of keeping the peace, but everyone as members should consider how the actions of their peers on this forum has a direct effect on the quality of their experiences in Costa Rica. If you observe a personal attack or violation of the rules in the forum, then be sure to report it. Also, please be proactive in encouraging your CRT buddies to keep the forum civil while being supportive of new sponsors and new members who contribute new content. |

i really do get the desire to attract new posters/lurkers/contributors to this board. its good for the site and its sponsors. new blood is always good. people should be coming here for good information and hopefully a little fun. i think a decently articulated plan of direction would have been met by a lot of guys wanting to help. most here after all are grown men typically with some type of success. and most are here because they enjoy posting and helping other CRT guys. its a place to connect and catch up for a lot of us. and we want the site to thrive. but its hard to understand how censoring the content as it pertains to different subjects is going to help. maybe the perception of the admins is that the core posters are a bunch of curmudgeonly nasty old farts intent on bitching 24/7. and to purge those posters would bring in new posters. maybe thats true to an extent. but i think you lose a wealth of knowledge and a pretty decent core group of guys. as far as these attacks i think that is subject to some interpretation. without getting into specifics the consensus or consciousness of a group tends to root out fraud and lies. if a guy comes in talking utter nonsense he gets served. like Bill said, he took a lot of hits on the quality and service of SL over the years and no one had to be censored for that opinion. he just stood up and answered back. for weeks it seemed as if no one was watching the site at all and then suddenly we were going to be taught a lesson. sure you have the big stick and clearly you can do what you want with the site but i think a deep breath on both sides is best. if the ultimate goal is to clean up the site and make it more marketable i'm in. lets do it. with mutual respect por favor. and fwiw i strongly dislike the random censorship. and lets add likes to the posts to see what people are responding positively to. ![]() |

After having a chance to get to understand better the complaints and concerns of the members, I would like to also apologize. I have quite a few mistakes and I hope we can work together to keep the forum a civil place for our mutual benefit. At the moment I am looking for new CRT sponsors and discounts. In particular, I hope to focus on Jaco. If you have any suggestions, then please reply on the following thread. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=43505 |

Admin 3....... Thank you for your apology. I'll repeat, just for emphasis, a comment I posted earlier about your new career. "LESS IS MORE." -------- Please keep it in mind for the best interest of CRT. |
