As a newbie, I'm completely unaware of the various locations of these places you guys describe. After reading the various tips, I understand the best thing is to ride around in a taxi at night at a couple dollars a ride. What advantages are there to staying at a hotel near the action?

Btw, I'm planning on staying at the Sportsman Lodge.

Sr. Jagmeister,

Here are my dos colones on the topic of your question.

If this is your first trip or any trip less than double my suggestion, for what dos colones are worth, is stay at the DR, Pres, Morazon, or Sportsmans.

In fact the Sportmans may be the best after the DR as Bill and his lovely partner will help take really good care of U.

My very first trip up to and through trip 25, I stayed at the DR and found it to be very convenient. Of course the DR was a little different then...

However, now I rarely even go to the DR except for the memories and the comraderie of the place during Happy Hour. I actually prefer the NY Bar and the quality of the gang that hangs there from the old Park Hotel (vaya con dios). just down the hill from the DR toward avenido central 9the walking street with the brick tiles...

I used to have the tude of the famous movie, Apocolypse now where the guy went into the jungle for mangos and almost go mauled by the Tiger...

I would cab in from the Airport and never leave the DR just like the philosophy of never leave the boat, never leave the boat...

But now you have to go across the street for food, unless of course you call room service which is a good option...especially if you have a long term non pro hanging with you for a day or dos.

But that is just me. My advice is stay close, ride all the rides, and get ready for a life time experience. U will learn the ropes as we all have.

Lol,
