What bar will have tonight's World Cup qualifier USA V CR 10 PM ET, 8pm MT from Colorado on TV. ESPN is carrying it in English. Bartenders love it. Maybe hard to get a drink but who whichever bar has it on it'll be jumping. I watched them play ten years? ago in a World Cup elimination match at the DR and it was really a wild and fun crowd, kind of like watching a NFL home team play off game at your favorite hang! A good time for sure. The game time weather forecast in Commerce City, CO predicts a 90 percent chance of snow showers, with as much as four inches of accumulation by the end of the night, adding a wrinkle. I doubt the Tico team has played in that kind of weather before. Feel sorry for all of them having to run around in short pants in that crap. US will need the advantage, missing a few of their starters due to injuries. Problem with the DR as you may know is they don't really have a very good TV set up, meaning if you ain't sitting in the right spot you really can't see the game you want very well unless you have binoculars. And getting them to put on the game you want to watch is always a challenge involving a three ring circus with the bartender, the security guy who thinks he knows how, and then finally the desk mgr who may or may not. Unless they've improved it since the last time I was there. |

I was in the Colonial playing BJ during the world cup qualifyer between USA and CR a few years ago. The game was tied with just seconds to go and a tie would have sent CR to the World cup. Ticos and Ticas were counting down the seconds when USA scored on a corner....the place went silent until the ugly gringo next to me said "YEA USA whoo hooo". Every eye in the place turned and looked at him like he was dead. I said loudly "I don't know him" and hauled ass out the door. Don't know if he made it out alive! |

Here's that darkest moment for the Tico Men's Team brother Bone posts about. I only watch soccer when the US plays CR, which is rarely, or the finals of the World Cup, but I am quite sure the Tico crowd in the Colonial went numb. At lesser establishmetns I am sure they wre throwing stuff. I had to watch the replay 5x, still couldn't believe they let the US player do that. From the Guardian.uk this a.m: "Costa Rica have stumbled to the middle of the pack since Jonathan Bornstein drilled home a US corner-kick at the death in the final Concacaf qualifying game in 2009. That Borstein header forced the Ticos into an ill-fated home-and-away series with Uruguay for the right to go to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Uruguay knocked out Costa Rica on their way to becoming darlings of the tournament. The Ticos have never been the same since. " But, CR can repay the favor. US lost last week and play power house Mexico next week. A loss by the US could knock them out. "It's about as close to a must-win game that a non-must-win game can be. The US coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, believes it is, in fact, a must-win." |

Every bar in Costa Rica has that game on tonight. The Sportsman has it on right now and the Dunn was packed with all their TV's on the game. |

If you missed the game you missed the "Soccer Snow Bowl" The field was totally covered and it was coming down hard and they could barely play. US won 1-0. Because of conditions it was an interesting game. |

CR soccer players are like their chicas. They ref tried to call the game but the CR players insisted they continue. Now they lost and they want a replay. To me that's like a chica that agrees to 60 and when you get her back to the room she asks for a C. |

At least that was the babbling limey announcer's view of what was transpiring on the field. His pronunciation of "Casta Rica" drove my nuts. I finally turned the volume off. |

According to what I read both sides wanted to continue. However to me that is analogous to a boxing match where one fighter is getting pounded badly by the other and the referee is considering stepping in and declaring a TKO but both corners say no no let the fight continue. The referees duty is to take action that he feels is correct without regard to what the boxers say. In this case I feel the officials should have made the decision based on what they felt was the correct call not withstanding the pleadings of the teams. I do not know what decision they would have reached independently. Perhaps they would have continued the game but for them to use the explanation that the teams wanted to continue is an abdication of their responsibility. |

Costa Rica federation has appealed to FIFA to have the game nulified. Question is, would they have done that if they had won? |
