Post subject:  Price of monitors in CR?

This question is more for those living in CR.

Does anybody know how much a decent 15-17" plat fanel computer monitor would cost? What's the best place to buy one? HyperMas?

I think even though it would be more expensive to buy there, it will be less if you figure in the shipping costs from the US, etc. And I won't be in CR for another 6 months.

Are there any places to buy used there? Where?

Thanks for any info.

The new flat panel monitors are package well, and would pass as a carry on. Why not bring it with you?

There is a store across from the Holiday Inn that sells used computers and other electronics. It may be a pawn shop. They only deal with used stuff. There is an appliance store on the corner, and the used store is next to it.

As Florida John says, I would take one from the US. You can even put it in your checked luggage.

Yep, bringing one from US would be my first choice. I can buy a brand new 17" dell for like $90. But I'm not going until late August.

Orange,

Are you in Costa Rica now? Is that why you mention not returning until August.

No, I'm freezing my ass off in Northeast US. If I was in CR, I wouldn't be asking about prices on monitors. I would get my ass up and go to a few stores and check prices myself.

Cost me 200 bucks about for a 22" LCD. I can set you up with the guy I use for computer stuff, they deliver. Nothing like having some K*D pull up on a little 125cc Chinese motorcycle with computer gear bungee strapped to it. PM me if you want and I can get them to email you their inventory.

Check with chi-trekker, he once said guys he works with that go to the US for training quite a lot. Maybe he could have one bring one back for you.

You don't think that is a little ballsy?
Asking a person you don't know to ask another person you don't know to do you a fairly huge favor? Just sayin'

(In Jan I brought down some appliances for a friend - hair appliances, not a washer or a dryer   He's a personal friend, so I was happy to do it; have also over the years brought stuff for other friends - a 17" ot 19" monitor - for a complete stranger - I'd frankly think twice, b/c it adds to the potential and real hassle factor for me when I'm supposted to be on vacation).

If you disagree, that's fine :) - just think its somewhat "above and beyond" to ask a complete stranger.

chi-trekker works with the guys that come to the US so they are not strangers to him and I have no idea if Orange and chi-trekker are strangers or not, it was just a lead in case it fit, if it doesn't fit fine, if it fits great.

I`ve been checking out prices for electronics and other things on my last trip Feb 10-27 and I found the general rule of thumb is everything is about 50% or more than the US or Canada.

My chica's esposo bought her a new laptop the other day for 365 mil colones (about U.S.$730). The same model was selling in Walmart in Florida at the same time for U.S.$635 including tax.

He told her that he got a good price in CR. I agree.
