I exchange money at the bank branches around the gulch and also at the airport.

I have never had a problem with $100 bills that are in good shape------no tears, marks, etc. The tellers DO seem to check for condition.

I expect that the chicas would not be as particular about $100 bills as the tellers, although I can't speak from experience.

I don't know about doctors or dentists in CR, but I assume that they would like cold, hard, untraceable $100 bills, just like in the U.S.

It's best to ask them directly by phone or email once you have a name of a doctor.

It seems like I used to see signs up a while back that they didn't want bills with a serial number starting with AB (and maybe CB but not sure).

Why even bother taking the risk of potential problems associated with $ 100 bills ....... like businesses not taking them, the aforementioned scam of someone switching the bills on you, certain serial numbers not being accepted, etc.

I always bring new or newer $ 20 bills and NEVER have any problems/issues. Simplify your travel life and minimize the chance of problems, go with the good 'ol $20 bills.

Chica will not take torn or marked up bills either. Look them all over good before leaving home.

Funny how it depends on the country. Some countries they frown upon the smaller bills, and others the bigger.

I have never had any issues with either. The rule I was always taught was no 1996 100's as that was a big issue with North Koreans counterfeiting back in the day, but Im sure many have used them.

Never heard any CB vs AB talk.

Before I went down last trip stop and pick up a Counterfeit Money Detector Pen. Workers down in the casino were shocked I had one. They ended up paying me in twenty dollar Bills all the time and i still checked them. IT is a Dri Mark product sold at office supply stores.

concur with the trimman...it's not worth it, I bring all twentys, withdraw money from my credit union before I leave. Then at the teller go thru and reject bills...exchange those....reject again until I have all perfect twentys. If you tell the teller why they understand. That way I take all nice clean twentys.

Also reject bills that are written on or have any red or black ink on them. On my first trip they rejected a bill that had been written on.

just got back last week from jaco and sjo...no issues either place with 100s...actually had an easier time spending them there than in the states....most places up home don't carry change to use one it seems....I was b.s.ing with a buddy in line at the bank before my trip down there and the teller gave me 30 100's and I was worried bout being able to spend them in costa but no issues
