I have a situation/question:

I will be "sick" for a few days in February, getting healthy in CR. I would like to give the illusion of being home, just in case work calls or texts (though usually they do not).

So, what is the best solution? It seems that Verizon Wireless does not work in CR. If I am wrong, please correct me and that will make this situation that much easier.

Otherwise, what suggestions do you have? Can I forward, somehow, my wireless service to Skype? And will I be able to get/respond to texts that way also? Or is Magicjack worth the investment ... and will it work via Sportmen's Lodge wifi?

Thanks guys ... and happy holidays to all of you.

The older Verizon's don't but I've been reading on this board that the new Verizon Iphones are unlocked and have a dual Sim tray, one of which will take a CR sim but you'll be needing to trim it. Without sounding like a pain in the ass,l I bet if you punch in Verizon on the search tab you'll have plenty of info. You can buy a cheap unlocked ATT phone off ebay, or other carrier, and use it in CR with a CR Sim.

My magicJack works well at SI, don't know about SL, should work though. So if you get one (you can choose your area code for your personal number--and that's the number that will show up on cller ID in the states--at least I think, 90% sure, long time since i thought about that; different if you call CR from US on magicjack). Then you can forward all your residential and verizon calls USA calls to the magicJack #, about 6 cents per minute, but, can call back to the states for free, go figure. Comes with voicemail which goes to you computer with an email notice and that you have a message in wmv format, and that you then play back in windows media player. Works good, good quality.

i know this doesn't solve all of your q's, but it's a start.
