I saw somewhere that there was a flight leaving Costa Rica to Nicaragua for Visa renewals. Same day, lunch included. Does anyone know of this and the contact information. I'm coming up on my 90 days. Thanks. Frank |

Frank there is also the option to stay over the 90 days and pay $100 penalty per month over 90 days That is really not a very desirable "option". If you overstay your vise you can be fined $100.00 for each month or part of the month you have overstayed. That is not an extension but a penalty and you can be barred from reentry for the number of months you have overstayed. Additionally that only applies if you are stopped at a border crossing or at the airport. Should you be asked for your passport during a police check or while driving and you have overstayed you can be taken into custody and deported. |

I think, not sure, it might be a trip some guy arranges when he has to renew his visa and he uses this to pay for his visa run and maybe even make a few bucks. |

I saw the ad as well. It was put on by a resort hotel in south Nicaragua. The flight left from the Pavis airport at 7 AM and returned at 1 PM. Lunch at the resort was included. It was advertised for the busy executive etc. |

It was advertised for the busy executive etc. I just sent one of my clients on this trip. Here is his trip report. I did the visa renewal trip to Rio Indio Lodge in San Juan, Nicaragua this morning and when I say morning, I mean morning. I left the house at 5 AM and drove to the Pavas airport. At that time of the day, it took about 20 minutes. Over the next 40 minutes other gringos carrying backpacks came in. Our host, Dr. Lopez arrived about 6. We paid exit tax and boarded a twin-engine d six-seat airplane. Wheels were up about 7 and we landed at the Greytown International Airport. Roll your eyes if you will, it's a nice strip and they really do have a terminal. I was told it opened in April of this year. We had about ten minute boat ride on the San Juan Lagoon, or as I think our guide said had once been called Morgan's Lagoon for the pirate captain that took refuge there to avoid the British and to take on fresh water and provisions. The Rio Indio Lodge is quite impressive. We went in had coffee and juice, toured the property. The rooms seem quite nice. Theres a pool with swim up bar and a bar with TV and pool table adjacent to the pool. We were then taken on a to minute boat trip to Greytown, a Nicaraguan fishing village. There are no roads in so there are no cars. Otherwise, there's nothing of interest there. Back to the lodge and we were served a brunch. If you go, don't start eating until they bring out the langostinas. The little lobsters were wonderful. A couple of people had two. Alas, I had eaten a potato quiche and pinto gallo so I only had one but it was excellent. They also served mimosas. Out flight plan was to leave at 11:00 but we didn't get off until about 11:30. We touched down at Pavas a couple of minutes before noon. And it took me longer to drive from the airport here than the flight from Greytown to here. There was noting to spend money on other than the $195 to go, the CR exit tax and the Nicaraguan entrance tax. So the trip cost $238. To a person, everyone said they would like to go back and spend a for a few days there. The lodge has 2 ocean fishing boats and six smaller boats they use in the canals and on the lagoons. Tarpon, snook and guapote seem to be the main species fished. I asked but didn't get any brochures but was told it was $124 a day and that was all inclusive, including, booze. I'm not sure they know me and my friends though so that may not apply long. I don't know what the tariffs are for fishing. Bill P, Heredia |

I saw this place on a salt water fishing show, if you just want to fish and no pink snapper it looks like a great place: http://www.therioindiolodge.com/the-lodge.html Regards, 911 Driver |

My wife and I did this trip last week. It all went smoothly. The cost was $225 per person, the $29 departure tax and a $16 dollar immigration tax in Nic. Sid found it for me. Erik, the host, was organized and friendly. He even filled out the immigration forms for Nic for us. We arrived at the Pavas airport at around 6 and left around 7. We were back by 12:30. The flight was in a 6 seater plane and lasted less than a hour. The trip included a water taxi tour of the river and a drive by of the "town". There are no roads. The landing strip is next to the river. The lodge, http://www.therioindiolodge.com ( not sure if the link will come through, google Rio Indio Lodge if it doesn't ) is very cool. It's a large rustic lodge in the middle of the jungle. Food and coffee was great. The lodge has 27 rooms and only a couple of guests. I think one of the reasons they are doing this is to get word out about their lodge. They definitely want you to consider coming back someday and staying in their lodge. Which I would do except that I have a dog at home and thus my strong desire for a one day visa run. ( I got home that day by 1:30 and my dog was waiting in the yard, having no idea I had crossed international borders that morning.) In any event, the trip was painless and actually enjoyable. The lunch was good and touring the lodge and the river was enjoyable. There's a lot of history in the area. From pirates to sandanista fighters. My wife thought is "was way cool and worthy experience". We will do it again. |
