Yes, you can buy duty free at SJO and take it w/you to your hotel; realize it may be different from what you are used to - unless you are a real drunk, the amount you can purchase and take with you should be sufficient for your trip - assuming its not, there are at least 2 supermarkets in the downtown/gulch area you can purchase liquor - but duty free is your best bet; good supply and selection of rum - try flor de cana or ron centanario from CR - too you might want to sample Havana Club from Cuba, not available in the USA
(Also remember most brands of liquor are imported to CR thus can be expensive outside of duty free - or at duty free for that matter - rum tends to be much less expensive)
