I couldn't find the article either. I did read a few editorials from AM Costa Rica. What a serious collection of dumbasses running that paper. Hope they never return to the US. The national IQ would drop 20 points as they went thru immigration.

Funeral of Tim Hodgson
was held Wednesday

The funeral for Tim Hodgson, a partner in the downtown Hotel Del Ray, was held Wednesday. The long-time businessman here is believed to have died from a heart attack.

Hodgson is originally from England and came to Costa Rica in 1993 where he and a group of partners bought and remodeled an old apartment building. The apartment was turned into the now iconic Hotel Del Rey that is located in the center of San José at Avenida Primera and Calle 9. Complete with a bar and casino, the establishment features a bustling night life.

Apart from his working success, Hodgson will be remembered for his grey, waxed handlebar mustache and his triumph over adversity. During the 1990's while on a vacation in Cuba he suffered a motorcycle accident that cost him a leg, leaving him to live the duration of his life with a prosthetic limb.

His moral outlook can be summarized by the Englishman's favorite quote listed on his Facebook page, “Avoid having your toes trodden on, don't tread on other peoples toes.”

A friend described Hodgson as a proper English gentleman and said he was an avid fisherman. The friend, Dan Wise of Rio Colorado Lodge in northeast Costa Rica, said that Hodgson would visit the area at least six times a year. The place is known for tarpon fishing.

The editor, Jay Brodell, is not from the US so its National IQ won't suffer if he enters. He ain't a dumbass, he made something out of nothing 12 years ago and is living a nice life in CR without much overhead. But.

From last week's AM CR's obituary quoted above re: the DR's part owner passing:

Nice free advertisement for Wise with embedded Google Adsense search terms who in turn advertises heavily in AM CR and often provides "fishing reports". Google "Rio Colorado" and Wise's fishing shack is the 2nd hit. Google "Rio Colorado tarpon" and it's entirely the first 4 pages of google results. Whenever someone dies in CR, Wise gets quoted in AM CR, with the name of his fishing shack and tarpon fishing, as a friend of the deceased. Why is his hotel (if you want to call it that) mentioned by name and that "it is a place known for tarpon fishing" info in this obit article in the 1st place? Yep, Joe Blow from Blow's Chicken, noted for their chicken wings in New Orleans said the deceased would visit the French Quarter often. Ya sure. What did "friend" Dan Wise add to the obit--that the deceased fished the area 6x per annum? Wise sure has alot of friends, dead ones anyway. Great personal info from a "friend". I call BS.

Incidentally, hotel owner Wise is a DUI lawyer in Hattiesburg, MI.

I suspect AM CR Editor Jay Brodell and Wise may be partners of some kind based on AM CR's copyright disclaimer: "The contents of this website are copyrighted by Consultantes Rio Colorado 2012 and may not be reproduced anywhere without permission." Hey, two guys trying to make a buck.

AM CR is occasionally a good source of CR info in English for those who are not there 365. But, its really just an advertising brochure with many of his stories translated from other media (often without credit), and if you've noticed almost all of his sub-titles and/or stories have Google Adsense search words in it, like in the obit: Hotel Rio Colorado--tarpon fishing.

But please stop with the holier than thou. What I mean, and he has acknowledged my emails, is that he is not ashamed to be two faced when in the past he would slip into an article a direct slap at the DelRey and/or at those of us who go to CR partly or mainly for the chicas. But now, with balls the size of grapefruits, he publishes a daily sexy Hotel DR ad, in fact two a day as of late. Just one example, in 2010, he published AM CR's "editorial positions" #11 of which says: " We think that sex tourism is morally wrong and demeans those who participate and those who stand by in silence". That was 2 years ago, it's on line. But, he hasn't editorialized at all about the issue last 2 years, nor have I noticed any DelRey slaps since the DelRey came on board as a heavy advertiser at about the same time. I worked in Congress for 4 years as a page when I was in college. You know the drill, a member puts a bill aka a proposed law in the hopper, that's how it starts. There was the inside joke amongst members they would call "a fetcher", that a particular bill was put in the hopper by a member only for one reason---lobbyists fetching. The interests that the proposed bill would hurt would have their lobbyists camped out at his office door the next day. You know what that means.

Same thing with Jay. No, no, he ain't no dumb ass.

Por favor Jay, go out and get laid once in a while.

AM CR figured out 12 years ago what the Tico Times didn't until it was too late--gringo paper newspapers can't make it in CR.
