Back in the '90's, outside of San Jose (on the Cartago side?), going up the side of a mountain - to a restaurant, I believe - I remember a cable car ride - it was always "closed" but I do remember seeing it from the road - anyone else remember it or have any info? Also; was - still is? - a famous - at least on CRT ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks guys - appreciate the info! ![]() |

Le Monastere.....built like a abbey with a view of the valley.....overpriced. bring a jacket, it can be cold due to the elevation. stay away from the overpriced wine list. |

you would be better off just taking a taxi ride up there, sitting out on one of the benches, ordering a pizza delivered from the nearest pizza joint, enjoy the view, throw down a couple of mini vodkas, use the restaurant terlets and leave a floater for a tip......and grab a handful of tiny napkins on the way out. enjoy! as far as the cable car.....I believe it was "closed" due to an unfortunate event involving some particularly hideous, yet typically deplorable, conduct by one of the CRT members currently living in a double-wide next to the city dump in the Pits of Jax........perhaps he may regal us and come clean with a confession....... |

Ah, Circus ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the info, guys - the monastary used to get a lot of ink on CRT; seldom mentioned now; wondered about it - as I've stated before, only one thing worse than a poor to fair res't in Costa Rica - an overpriced poor to fair res't in Costa Rica ![]() ![]() ![]() I hear you and agree; place in San Antonio de Escazu - italian res't near Pico Blanco - GREAT VIEW;good food - but the prices were higher than South Beach ![]() So I'm not crazy; the cable car existed - where did it go (yeah, I know, up the mountain) - just up the hill; to a res't, wanted to take it but every trip it was "broken" so never had the chance ![]() |

To put newer guys in the picture, here's Le Monastere's Website: http://www.monastere-restaurant.com/ All I could find on cable cars were about zipline trips. |

Thanks Jazz ![]() The place impresses me as a great view w/ at best mediocre food, at high prices - still, some years back it was all the rage on CRT (kinda like 2 places I'm thinking of now ![]() ![]() ![]() |
