You filled out a federal absentee ballot. Often referred to as a backup ballot because if you file both a state absentee ballot and a federal absentee ballot the federal one is only counted if for some reason your state ballot does not arrive in time or is disqualified for some reason, The advantage of a state ballot is it allows you to vote for your Congressional candidates, state candidates and President. The federal ballot allows you to only vote for President. If you only want to vote for President why not check with the organization who sponsored that event 4 years ago and see if they are doing it again this time around? |

some states have different choices for the presidential race.....do you have to declare a state? for an hypothetical instance....say one state has as presidential choices a muslim kenyan or a godless mexican...while another state also offers the choice of a real american..... and are write-ins allowed? just curious. |

Sorry I should have more clear. The Federal emergency absentee ballot is a write in ballot. It is sent to the state where your last legal residence was prior to your locating outside the country. Most voting officers recommend you go through the procedure set up by your state to get a state absentee ballot but also to send a Federal emergency absentee ballot to cover yourself in case of a problem with your state ballot. There is a procedure in place that prevents the Federal ballot from being counted if your state ballot is counted. |
