Can anyone tell me why Amnet has dropped its English coverage out of Miami. This is true on both the basic and digital coverage. They refer you you to the Spanish coverage on channels 6 and 7 and 11.

No offense meant but why don't you contact the corporate owners?

There's been convo in CR about this too: http://amnet.costa.rica.cr/
My guess is that English-language broadcasting is just a small part of their ops (a sideline, really) and their internal auditing of viewership told them it wasn't worth the expense. Doesn't it always come down to cost-benefit analysis TO THEM? And minority clients be damned.

As usual, you guess wrong.

Repretel petitioned the cable providers (Amnet/Tigo and Cabletica) to block NBC as they purchased exclusive broadcast rights for Central America. Whats interesting is it took them a week to realize that it was on NBC and enforce their rights. I don't see it coming back for the duration of the games.

Thanks Randy.....That's what I thought was going on. To the other response....I get by with my Spanish, but I am more comfortable in English and I'm sure there are lots of people who would rather see it in their native tongue.

The other problem is that the Tico channels have limited coverage unlike NBC which had almost 24 hour coverage. An unfortunate, perhaps unintended, consequence is that all NBC programming is now blocked not just coverage of the Olympics.

I have Slingbox so I am connected to my cable in Atlanta. This is easy if you know anyone in the states that has cable you can get a separate cable box from Ebay, plug that cable box into The slingbox, plug, that slingbox into the wall, and you got USA tv with Sports with USA English Commentators.

Or they can rent an extra cable box from their cable provider. You can subsidize their cable bill.

This sounds complicated but is Easy and worth the effort.

Get a satellite dish. There are lots of free English channels up there if you have the right setup.

Dennis at the Freebird has Sky TV for him and his 7 guest rooms. If you call him and find out a time, I'm sure he'd be happy to let you see it.

I own up to being mistaken when I am mistaken but the "as usual" is a bit scathing, don't you think, Bruvver? I am glad to see that Brother VB got the correct answer and a work-around.
