Does anyone have any experience with calling the US from their Hotel rooms with an International Calling Card as far as add'l charges the hotel tags on....I have done some research from previous trips and have found that using my cell phone to call back to the US, even at 1.99 per minute....It has been cheaper than calling direct from the hotel....

I am now considering a calling card for my future trips, which I would purchase in the US (Not a street vendor)..have read some warnings regarding using them in Hotel Rooms (surcharges, etc)

Any advice on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
CG

On my first trip, I called the US from my room at the Presidente. On my home phone bill was the charge of 43 dollars. Never called again. People have my hotel# and can call me for about a buck if they have to. $43 for three minutes was a mistake I only made once.

I buy a 3K calling card from the street vendor between the Prez and the Del Rey. I then use the lobby phone from the Prez to call back to the US. The card does not provide much time. I forget how much, I think 13 minutes.

I recently purchased a Motorola V551 phone on the advice of another board member. I'll probably use that (SPARINGLY) on my next trip. I've used the room phone from the Del Rey to the US. It is $1/minute. I've never noticed any additional charges on my home phone bill.

YOu can buy a $20.00 I.C.E. PHone card at the booth in baggage claim just left of the Lugguage customer service counters. just before the banos.. The $20.00 ICE cards give you about 66 minutes and no surcharges from hotel rooms.. Just diall 199 then 2 for english....

They also have $5.00 & 10.00 cards as well.

THEY CAN BE USED TO CALL ANY COUNTRY! rates will vary.

Is the ICE phone card for international calls (calling Canada) or just to the US?

Before leaving the states go into a warehouse store Costco etc that sells MCI phone cards.

The other day they were selling 700 min. phone card for $20.00. 2.9 cents per min.

Before leaving the states you can add min's to your card. Up to $60.00 (2100 min.)worth. This can only be done in the US

YOU CAN USE THIS CARD IN CR AND JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE ELSE TO CALL THE STATES.

I call the front desk and they hook me up with MCI. NO CHARGE. then just put in your number info etc.

It costs app 50 cents per min. for the call from CR.

I dont think they work from pay phones on the street.

$43 !!

That's a good nut sucking session over at ZB. When you put it in those terms it really hurts.
