Post subject: | How to stop knowledge of roaming/being overseas |
I have seen this discussed in a different thread but saw no resolution even though brothers made quite a few good suggestions. Starting as a new topic to put this thing to bed which I am sure will be useful to others as well. I desperately need to hide the fact that I am in SJO, Europe or traveling elsewhere overseas. I need for people to be able to reach me on my business mobile number hence the reason I will need roaming enabled. I do not want people to know that my phone is actually on roaming when they call me while I am overseas... The annoying thing with this is that if you ring a mobile while it is roaming you get an international connection sound (different ring tone) which basically tells everybody and even to the most unsuspecting that your phone is on international roaming & you are not in the country. When overseas before I have even been asked the question "Are you overseas" when I've answered the phone. I am trying to work a way around this: - Turning my phone off & relying on messagebank is not an option. I have Google voice and all messages show as an email - Skype or something similar is not an Option - I am with AT&T and cannot change the number or provider Can anybody offer some suggestions here? |

I had the same issue while in Rio a few weeks ago. I had my old 3GS IPhone that is unlocked. I downloaded the Free Magic Jack app .I had a Brazilian sim card and WiFi in my apartment. I fowarded my regular cell number to my majicjack. When I was called I just went back to my Apartment or went to a place that had free WIFI. All worked good and no one knew I was in Rio for 10 days. |

MagicJack works well. I have a South Jersey MJ phone number, but I live in Colombia. Those who do not know where I am living do not know the difference. |

Thanks a lot Ray and Blu-devil This sounds like too easy of a fix. My biz phone has unlimited international voice and data roaming. If I call forward and then take my phone with me, all calls will ring to the Magic Jack number while I could make calls from my number, which is all paid for... This will hide my presence completely and allow me free unlimited calling (well paid by the business) while I am overseas or am I missing something here? |

Do you use your Google Voice as your primary number? I do, and this is what I do: - Go to Onesuite.com and get their call forwarding package. Select a number from whatever state you want, doesn't really matter - Plug in the Onesuite number into your approved Google Voice numbers. When someone calls GV, it will go to the Onesuite number - Forward all calls from Onesuite to your International number It worked perfectly for me before I move to CR. Hope this helps. |

Papi Chulo I use Google voice for transcribing my emails but my primary number published to the business world is my Cell number. BTW, Google'e transcription of VM to email really sucks. Thanks |

Here is what I am thinking of doing and hope that it will work as planned. Procedure: Since I have two cell phone, two numbers, (one Biz one personal)
2. Take both phones to SJO 3. Answer incoming biz calls from personal mobile since they will be forwaded 4. Make outgoing calls from the business phone to show the recievers my caller ID I am afraid that once the number that is answering the forwarded calls (personal), starts international roaming, the call coming to the number being forwarded (biz) will start to sound the international ring tone to the callers ![]() Yours thoughts and comments will be greatly appreciated! |

Brother Seabreeze might not have a problem with Onesuite.com but others have. Here's some reviews: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/OneSuite |

Seems like forwarding to unlocked phone in CR with Magic Jack for incoming calls and then use Skype for your outgoing calls would work. On the Skype website you can set your Skype Caller ID to your business mobile number, so that number shows up when you make a Skype call (and it sounds like a regular ring). The other good part is your calls will be a lot cheaper than if you used international roaming rates from your mobile. And your unlocked mobile with cheap ICE Kolgi SIM card will let you call and text all your chica friends while you are in town. |

I don't know if it is still the case but I used my ATT Iphone 3g in San Jose last year and the caller ID that shows up to a person in the states was not what they would see if I was calling from inside the US. I would test it before talking to the wife or the boss ![]() |

Thanks DonCarlos I have a Mobile number that everyone has known for years and I need to continue using it. When in USA, I would like to have the calls come to the Mobile directly and not route via magic-jack etc. I could get a Magicjack number and forward all of Mobile calls to it and then receive them when in CR. Disable forwarding to the Magicjack upon return and us the cell phone as usual. Would that work? Regards |
