As this Memorial Day weekend approached, it got me thinking about the long ago past and how much I enjoyed the comraderie and wonderful memories I shared with the many soldiers I got to meet through 20+ years of service.

Above all, I've come to also realize that I've lost contact with quite a few of them and unfortunately, many have passed. There's no way I can remember all of them, but there are many great memories of fun and successful times, just as well as moments of struggle and uncertainty. Especially during Nam.

Eventually, the years of memories finally arrived to the day I was introduced to CRT, became a member, and began taking as many trips as I could to CR and other fun places. It was then when I became aware that even though having fun with the chicas is a pretty high point during every trip, the principal aspect of each and every visit has been the comraderie and brotherhood shared with the many CRT members I've been so fortunate to meet throughout the years. The list is long and I trust I'll be forgiven for not mentioning all of you, but I'm sure you know who you are.

To me, Memorial Day is not only a day to remember the military service people, living and deceased, who have done so much for us to be able to have and enjoy so much freedom. It is a day when I also appreciate the friendships and relationships I've established throughout. I'm honored and thankful to be able to address so many of you as friends and brothers.

Most of the soldiers that I served with and were close to are no longer living. I first visited CR in 1971 trying to find a couple of Vietnam buddies that had given up on the U.S. Sadly, one of them committed suicide just a couple of days before I found his location.

CRS and CRT did a lot to fill a void. There were a few bad apples but by and large, a lot of nice gents. Memorial Day and Veterans Day is special to me as I'm sure it is to you. It is sobering to be able to recall faces of fellow soldiers almost 45 years ago. Even to remember voice patterns. Shit, I cannot remember what I had to eat the day before but some things will be with me until my demise.
