I asked her not to do the abbreviation thing. Cannot get it thru to her that she gets 160 characters for 1 text so use them.

Have a hard enough time trying to figure out her full words, usually mispelled.

I forgot to mention that this is a VERY common abbreviation. Also, "Te Amo" is another way of saying "I love you," but might be more commonly used when your relationship is more cemented. All of this has a lot of flexibility, and depends on how you say it.
