In two words: "That sucks."
Those poor ex-pats must be sweating in their Barrawear and Dockers.
At least in the USA, when the government declares eminent domain, they give you something for it... even though it may not be enough.
I bet, if they could, these gringos would swap their Costa Rican dream homes for a shack in Appalachia.
Happy Retirement!

These kinds of things can happen when you decide to settle down in a 4th world country.

Speaking of Parrita, have they fixed or modernized that bridge on the south end of town? I haven't traveled to Quepos by road in about eight years. Wasn't it one-way years ago? How about the bridges and road between there and Quepos? There used to be more potholes on that stretch of road than craters on the moon.

You don't think this happens here in the US? You obviously don't own any "protected wetlands"...

1) The bridges: Yep, that pain in the ass on S end of parrita is completely redone, 4 lane, wouldn't even know it was a bridge anymore. Same all the way to Quepos, nice ride, there is still a small stretch where the black top washes out and bumpy, not bad at all. If it's been 8 years, same with the road from Quepos to Dominical--all paved, nice ride.

2) The land owners in Parrita on Palo Seco. Scarey.

I see there is another new big condo development for sale there, Coco Mar, Isla Palo Seco, advertises daily in AM Costa Rica. Already built as far as I can tell.

CR's theory in the older development that has filed suit is that nobody can own an island in CR. I bet Coco Mar's sales have come to a stop.

I have only been on that beach once and it was years ago. Hard to see why they are calling that an island using the normal definition of an island, peninsula yes, but island? Maybe 50 years ago it was.

Is this a poet's thread? Why is everybody writing like Mickey Spillane?

Greengo is always interesting to read but hardly sui generis. Here in SWFl we have a weekly columnist with something of a similar style--here's an example: http://charlotte.floridaweekly.com/news ... blank.html

I got a kick out of the parody Jersey. It's hard to wade through a couple of Greengo's post and not want to play in the verbals hit sandbox.
