Just a quick question for the more experienced members of the board as this is my first trip (and post) to CR. What is the correct etiquette if your todo la noche is interrupted by an earthquake? |

How strong was it in San Jose. Felt it pretty strong here in Jaco and havent had power for a couple of hours. |

It was a 6.2 centered near Quepos. There are 6 reported deaths. Channel 6 reports that there are a number of major road closings in the area this morning. So, if you have travel plans for that area this morning, you may want to check on the situation before leaving SJ. Hopefully, they'll have them open before long. |

I've been living here over 5 years now and that's the biggest I've felt. Woke me up and nothing usually wakes me up. Hope it didn't affect the road between Jaco and San Jose. I've been feeling small aftershocks ever since. Hope we don't get another big one. |

Same here, it was the strongest earthquake that I've felt in SJ after 3 years. Still no electricity where I live at in Los Yoses but I think it was limited to my street. I think I may have to move apt. since I live on the 3rd floor and the 3rd floor floor is leaning down a bit and it looks like the stairway is a bit damaged. I suppose it is an old house but I think I'll have someone inspect the house for damage and go from there. Here is some info about the earthquake, http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqinthenews/2004/usrban/ I\m on the 9th floor of Mall San Pedro right now working and I can still feel a couple of tremors once in a while. Everything looks like its business as usual in Los Yoses but I have only heard rumors about the rest of the city. |

Kotigre, I recommend you find yourself a motel for a day or so 'til you can get your place checked out. Any visible shifting can indicate something that could really let lose with an aftershock and they ALWAYS come. As a Californian living in one of the most active earthquake zones in the state, shakers are generally no biggie to me but a 6.2 is dangerous wherever you are.  I worry about all the girls who's home we all know are probably pretty poor those are always the ones hit the worst.

Sounds like good advice. If anything went wrong during the aftershock, you would lose 2 CRT guys. They are pretty used to earthquakes in CR and you are right that some of the houses the tica's live in that I've seen are pretty shabby. They should be okay but ok. |
