Costa Ricans The Fatties of Central America A study of Central America in 2011 reveals that Costa Ricans is tops in overweight and obesity issues, above Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. According to the study by the Encuesta Nacional de Nutrición (National Nutrition Survey), bad eating habits and physical inactivity are the cause, Ch*ldren between 5 and 12 had levels above 20% of overweight, while adults aged between 20 and 44 had levels over 63%. The data is increasingly worrying because it shows that 77% of Costa Ricans do not manage a healthy weight. According to nutritionist Nahida Andrews, the factor of time to prepare healthy food is what most affects the eating habits of the Costa Rican "but neither is an excuse for not seeking healthy options that are quick". Gastritis, which is also related to poor eating habits and stress, could also be triggers of anxiety and compulsion toward food, causing excess. Another factor is the lack of physical activity. For Ch*ldren prefer to play video games rather than take part in physical activity, which can also be attributed partly to the insecurity of the streets and parents preference to keep their Ch*ldren indoors. Seems to me that I read ......... That if Costa Ricans get to the age of 60-something, they have the longest lifespan of any people on the planet. |

Quote: Obesity is an epidemic in the United States and in other developed countries. More than two-thirds of Americans are overweight, including at least one in five Ch*ldren. Nearly one-third are obese. Obesity is on the rise in our society because food is abundant and physical activity is optional. This problem is not unique to Costa Rica |

And yet when I get back to the U.S. I'm just overwhelmed by the percentage of fatties compared to CR. And when I get back to CR and walk up and down Avienda Central I seem to see such a high percentage of non-obese good looking people. Now at Mall San Pedro, that's another story. |

Just go to any airport, it is incredible how fat we have become. I love my beer, but I do try to burn it off. |

No matter which country I visit, I am always newly shocked when landing in the US and seeing all the land whales swimming around. We are hands down the fattest country on Earth. |
