I am planning a trip to SJ and would like to plan it when there is a festival with bullfights.
I have done some research and it appears the best time is at new years (can't wait that long). I would like to come in the next month or so, can anyone offer any info on events close to SJ? day trip possibly.

I can't find any info on the net that helps or gives any details.

Thanks

There are Bullfights in Costa Rica, but the bull is never hurt and often, the bull wins! Next one is in san jose at Bonanza Cattle Show on inter american hwy(airport hwy)on St joseph's Day.March 19th......Street Fairs (Fiestas Patronales)
Costa Ricans don't believe in waiting around for a national holiday to have a celebration. Each city hosts its own Fiesta Patronales where the locals come together to dance, eat, listen to music, watch rodeos and bullfights and simply enjoy a good time. Dates may vary from year to year, but usually occur around the following dates.

Mora - January 21 to February 28
San Vicente de Moravia - April 5
San Rafael de Santa Ana - April 16 to 25
Tarrazu - April 25
Desamparados - May 2
Coronado - May 15
San Isisdro de El General - May 15
San Marcos de Tarrazu - May 15
Trinidad de Moravia - June 13
San Jeronimo - June 13
Leon Cortes - June 13
San Pedro de Montes - June 13
San Juan de Tibas - June 24
Ciudad Colon - August 10 to 15
Aserri - August 19
Desamparados - September 29
San Francisco de Dos Rios - October 4
Escazu - October 24
Pavas - December 4

I was not sure if all of the festivals had bull fighting or a selected few.
It's hard to find dates on any of these, only early, mid and late specified in the info.
Some do have specific dates, but perhaps not all of the activities listed. I guess you just have to go and see whats going on. I wanted to try to catch a bullfight if it was possible, although it would be a bonus to the trip.

Bullfight is not the reason for the trip if you know what I mean.

Is it just me but has someone actually opened up the gates to a real funnyfarm because alot of these newbies are for real retarded. Yea Funnyfarm one of the little known aspects of real Costa Rica Bullfights is if you can get behind the bull and grab his balls you get ten points! 8)

Mugsy, sorry I was not looking for a smart remark or to be called a retard (which I'm not).
I don't know you, and you don't know me, If you have nothing to add to my legitimate the question, then kindly move on.

Last year in March when I was there on TeleTica, they were broadcasting what I think was a rodeo type event. it looked like it would be fun to attend, not quit a Bull Fighting that you're looking for. I thought it was interesting there was a group of about 20 people ,,mostly men in the ring.
They would taunt the bull into chasing them . Then they would calf a roping event . Then some hot ticas would come enter the ring, they were dressed like Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and dance.
My next trip I'm going to look into it.
If I remember correctly Samatha Brown on the travel channel went to a bullfighting event while in Costa Rica, but they don't kill the bull in C.R.

No, I'm not looking for the bullfights of Spain, but some entertainment during my downtime.

I live in Texas and rodeos are the norm here (every weekend) so it's not a new sport to me, I would just like to see it in a different country.

I am debating on booking a trip for next week March 15-21 for St. Joseph's day, but it is at the last minute and the airfare is quite high.
They are having the Bonanza Cattle show and although I don't care to spend the day at the cattle show, I would like to experience the bullfighting and fiesta activities.

It looks like there is another Festival in San Vicente on April 5th but that is coming up on Easter weekend and other things may be slow around that time.

Thank you Osgood for the information
and RoadMn295 for the support
