Well I just got back from a trip to sj/jaco. I was thinking about the average salary or min. Wage in costs rica. What surprised me was how much everything cost, the food, the transportation, and the taxes were pretty high in my opinion. I went with 3 other people and every time we ate or drank somewhere it would total up to around 100usd. Now being a business owner and being in the food service industry for so long I sit down and could see how much a business or worker should make. I stayed at sportsmans and DR and was wondering how much a bartender or waitress would make on a busy night. A tourist/visitor usually tips so I would say on a busy night/day they would make around 120-150usd. This is all on what I see, so how busy are the prostitutes? I was there feb.23-28 and I know most of them were hungry and prices dropped from 100$ easily. Are these girls just in it for easy money or just drug addicts or what? A hard working person should be able to make 100$ a day right? Enough on my rambling but just wondering how their life and economy is. |

Yes, they are relatively expensive. For example, a breakfast at a tourist joint costs about $6. A Tico pays $1.50-2.50 for the same breakfast at a local place. When a Tico goes out to a restaurant for dinner, he can afford it because regular working class Ticos don't go out unless it's a special occasion. And they aren't paying $100, those are gringo prices at tourist places. Ticos eat at home and they eat a lot of rice, eggs, vegetables, and fruits because they are relatively cheap. They buy them at a local feria (farmer's market) for the week. ¢10,000 gets you enough for a week. Chicken is the meat of choice because it's least expensive. But not everybody can do this, there is serious poverty in CR. Some people (and K*ds) go 2-3 days without food. It seems impossible to us, but my Tico family members tell me stories about years past when some days they had nothing to eat. My father in law is an artisan. He supported the whole family (5 K*ds). He made stuff (out of different materials) to sell. If he didn't sell that day, they didn't eat that day. Simple and cruel fact. Kind of the way some hookers live. It's a very humbling existence. An average worker makes about $100-125/week. About the same that a spoiled hooker can make from one (newbie) client. And she will still complain. ![]() I don't think bartenders make/servers make as much as you think. The Del Rey hookers (I mean.. bartenders) make more because of stupid tourists who tip them for their beauty () (definitely not for their service). Remember, they split the tips among all servers/bartenders/kitchen staff/helpers. That pie gets cut up into a lot of pieces. And tips is what they rely on. They probably make at most $3/hr salary. That's barely $20 for a 7-8 hour shift. Average salaries in CR are $2-3/hr. My wife worked at the Clarion Hotel a few years ago (2006-2007) and was making ¢750/hr. That's a $1.50. Wages haven't risen too much since but prices certainly have. Transportation... I assume you mean taxis and charters buses (i.e. Interbus). Yeah... Ticos don't use them. They walk everywhere in their neighborhoods and use public buses to get into the city for ¢255 (50 cents). We throw $2-4/taxi ride like it's nothing. Our one cab ride is an average Tico's bus budget for a week. |

I'm sure hooker earnings vary but if a chica can't get 1 measly client per night, she is a troll! Or just very unrealistic with her pricing. |

Pretty sad lot for a majority of them, and yet a recent news poll by LaNacion showed they were the most content of Latinos in the region or something like that. Pura Vida is ingrained in their genes. Yet as poor as most of them are, I am always impressed by a great majority of both sex's cleanliness, good grooming, and attempts to make a good appearance with what they have. And I notice the little K*ds walking to and fro school--they look scrubbed, their blue uniforms sharp. Probably the most familiar sound I hear when I visit homes is that unmistakable and unique drone of a CR washing machine. They get alot of use. |

I think you guys are very unrealistic when it comes to the spending habits of younger hookers. These are girls who grew-up far below American poverty standards never having any money of their own to spend. Now that they are of legal age wanting to sell that beautiful little shaved kitty to finally have access to make some money for the things they always wanted but never could have, and you guys talk like they should save all of their money in a bank account as a retirement fund for when they get old and nobody wants them anymore. You are correct that is what they should do!!!!!!!!! But we are talking about young uneducated grils, who are acting every bit as reckless as young American girls. Think about how much the average stripper makes in a major city on a weekly basis. A hot girl at Mons Venus in Tampa can average over 2k a week easily. That's more than a salary of 100k for the year, and I would bet they are dead broke at the end of each week/month for any number of reasons. ** Of course this is not the case for every single hooker at the Del Rey or SL or HLH ** |

I didn't mean to offend anybody at all with this post. As a person I feel for each and every one of them. I grew up poor too worked my way up to where I am now. I was just breaking down everything I saw. In America or in my business a server or bartenders salary is only 2.85, they make money off tips and they do split somewhat of it. The sushi chefs, kitchen chefs, and busters get a small percentage of tips. The average on a 4 shift week totaling around 20 hours they would make as much as my chefs or even more I'm half the time. So I figured servers or bartenders in CR would make close to the same. I don't like the fact that they have to resort to hooking but I treat each and every one of them with respect. I negotiate but I don't even know why I do cuz I tip them out and it gets back to regular price. Lol but please don't feel offended at all I was just speaking my mind in what I saw. All inputs are very informative and the views are right not wrong. FL John I understand what you posted too and it is right. Some have to do it to support their families and some do it for themselves. |

Wow! I have not heard of that place since I went there in 1996? 1997? What is it like now? |

Mons is still the same and the girls easily make that a week. $15 daytime- $20-25 night time to get in. But last time I was there they had new carpet. A few years back at the NYB the girls made 5000 colones day and 6500 on a Sunday. But don't forget they all get the 10% that is added onto the bill. |

Mons Venus is still the top of the line for the hottest girls in the Tampa Bay area but I like 2001 Odyssey just down the street on Dale Mabry because they have private rooms and the Spaceship upstairs, and some of the girls are available for the right price. Don't get me wrong....THE RIGHT PRICE IS VERY EXPENSIVE!!! In most instances it's $200 - $275 just to get back to the private private rooms, and then that is just for the normal lap dances with a few extras but no phucking or sucking. In most cases that will run another $300 - $500. The last time I was there my friend and I were drunk and loaded but we had a pocket full of cash. I try not to think about how many top girls from the Del Rey or Hotel M we could have had instead. One way to increase your odds of getting a girl who is willing to go FS in the backroom at an American Strip Club is to ask her.... Whats so special about the private rooms, and when she says I get completely naked respond.... Yeah, that's nice but do I get naked also? If she says no immediately.... move on to the NEXT!!! Better yet just book a ticket to San Jose, Medellin or DR! |

A chica that worked at Max a Menos said she made 10,000 colones a day, working 5 days a week. Also supplemental income at HDR ![]() |

According to La Nacion in an article recently the min wage in CR is 600$ per month. That is for working a 6 day work week as most costa ricans do. Any Tico who speaks english can start at 800$ per month at the many call centers here. These kinds of jobs are really fueling the middle class here. |
