I am bringing a computer and she needs to get ICE to do what? Install a jack? A wireless modem? Wireless card? Any other info on what and how I should do this would be appreciated very, very much. She lives in San Isidro (de General).

If its like Colombia which I think it probably is ICE will give her a little receiver thing (don,t know the correct name) which she will plug into a port on her computer. This allows her to pick up the internet wirelessly from a pole on the street - assuming thats available.

Is that the same with their "CableTica" tv cable company? I just read on a site I trust that they are about the best in CR over-all for internet. Thanks so much.

They are probably going to give her a 3g usb key. It looks a lot like a thumb drive but it has a SIM card in it so she can access the 3g network. AT&T has them in the states to access 3g. However, my favorita always had reception problems with the service. If it was rainy forget about it! Also, it was kind of expensive. I believe it was $40 or so a month so she stopped paying. However, the prepaid sim from her phone would work in the key. If there is cable internet in her area I would try to go that route.

CableTica is the best for TV, not sure about wifi. I would encourage she try them before going the ICE USB dongle route. It is what I use because it is all that is available to me. It gets super slow during the day because the network is over capacity. Just horrible!!

You have a choice of internet carriers in CR

Amnet and Cable Tica are the TV cable companies who also offer internet using a cable modem. They for the most part have separate service areas so you do not have a choice of which of the 2 should you go that route.

RACSA, owned by ICE but a competitor, also uses a cable modem.

ICE uses a DSL modem, which they call Acelra, using your land line. They may have other options but that is the only one I am familiar with.

3g? There is no wifi in the barrios. Have her contact her cable company (if she has one) and arrange an install. My inlaws have CableTica. When we got them a computer, they had CableTica come out and run a wire into their house and install a cable modem. Only took about a week, surprisingly fast.

Their (I mean...our) monthly internet bill is about $25. The speeds are ok (up to 3mb down, 1mb up)

I use Amnet and they put in a cable modem and I installed a cisco linksys router so now the whole apartment is wireless.
