For those of you who think justice is fair here in Costa Rica, try this one on for size. A Tico lawyer was arrested for performing sham marraiges so that foreignors can stay in Costa Rica. The prosecutor has asked for a modest sentence of 250 years. Sounds fair to me. Given this possible sentence I wonder how much time one could get for smoking a joint....... Maybe 1000 years. I can't imagine how bad it will be for overstaying my visa

Definitely muy tico.

I remember reading somewhere that the maximum time you can spend in prison is like 35 or 50 years no matter what the sentence.

It seems the more heinous the crime the less time you get in jail. We have all read of thieves, rapist, muggers, etc. being released by a judge.

Now as to your personal problems "puffing and overstaying' :P . Puffing not so bad maybe 35 years, overstaying minor 85 years (but you will be sprung after 50 years).

Look at the bright side. Costa Rica allows conjugal visitation.

He had been very busy, sometimes marrying people several times, often drug addicts who signed broad powers of attorney for pocket change.

Not that it mattters to me personally, b/c I hate drugs of any kind however I wonder if this is for everybody; i.e. if it extends to non Costa Rican citizens and residents.
