Does anyone know of a good skin doctor in the San Jose area? I have a peeling dry skin condition that needs to be treated and wanted to find a good doctor that would give me a good rate. Would also be helpful if he spoke English. Thanks!

Dr. Benjamim Hidalgo Matlock, dermatologist, perfect match, at Clinic Victoria, 10 minutes from Downtown. bhidalgo@gmail.com. did a few things for me last year, all good. You can google Clinica Victoria Costa Rica, copy the map for the taxi driver, but it's very near to the U of CR. Receptionists don't speak good english but email him, his is better than mine!

Thanks! Would I get the same rate as locals? Some of the doctors around here seem to charge me expensive costs and I'm assuming its because I'm a Gringo and they think I don't know any better.

He was 75% cheaper than what my guy in the states wanted for what I needed done, and with great results. I've had various medical procedures done in CR over the years, this decision was one of the best, all in all.

Email him--he'll get back to you for sure, he's really a cool guy, very unpretentious and at ease, thorough, not rushed, makes it pleasant, knows North American life, speaks like one, I'd say early-mid 40's years old?

It would be best to do like I did to save more diagnostic expense--I sent him my med records via email/pdf in advance.

After he got my records I emailed him and asked his price, and he stuck to the price when I got there. He's practiced in the states during his training, publishes alot (in medical journals--I checked--I do this kind of investigation in my profession so it was easy), in fact he runs a service that summarizes the tons of constnatly new med lit that is out there for other dermatologists, works at a major private hospital in SJ, gets to his Clinica Victoria office in the afternoon.

I recommended him to a restaurant owner that I know from Quepos, a Costa Rican, for one of his K*D's problem and he was very happy too. You are not going to go wrong with Dr Matlock.

Private mail me for more info if you want, I see that you are new but you can send me a message using this board by clicking on the "pm" button below and that will come to my email.

Specialists at CIMA and Biblica charge between 35K to 40K for an office visit. In my experience they'll spend a lot of time with you getting your medical history and advising you. You may even get samples of the medicine. Is that a good deal for you?

Dr Matlock above is at Biblica until 2pm but he's cheaper at his office after that and a lot less bureaucratic hassle. Touch base with him, email your records to him, he'll work out the price with you and you can decide before you go.
