Questions: 1,

How readily available is "Wireless" internet in San Jose and its hotels? Also how about other places in CR like Dominical, San Isidro Etc.

Question 2,

My other question is basically the same as above just with 3G cell phone coverage.

I was just curious to these questions because im in CR for the first time and im there for about a month. And want to stay in touch with fam and friends while over there. Idealy what I want to do is use a wifi connection with my blackberry and use BBM Facebook twitter and Email. When you use the Wifi connection you wont be charged for roaming data and any kind of other bullshit charges your cell phone carrior makes up that day!!!
So in closing was just wondering how reliable Wifi and 3G cell phone coverage are in San Jose and its surrounding cities.

P.S.
If you see the Dec. Tica of the month tell her im looking for her LOLOLOL

Thanks!

3G is bueno almost everywhere, maybe a dead spot up against a mountain, or way down in the Osa (where I have never been). But, I remember Blackberry's were having problems 8 or 9 months ago, something like that, saw it in the papers and boards--do a Blackberry search on this board and that should pop up, don't know if it got corrected.

Wireless is available in many hotels in SJ, some only in the lobby, some in the rooms, but bring your own DSL cord, eg Sleep Inn offers wireless in your room but wants $12 to rent a cord. Still, need to check with each place.

Dominical, only been there once maybe 8 years ago, but planning a trip currently so I was researching it, not many hotels have wireless, check with them, some private condo/house rentals had it. San Isidro, no clue, but not many "big" hotels there, so do your due diligence before hand. San Isidro is up very high so no doubt they get a 3G signal, probably 2G which also works in SJ, but wireless is another Q.

I've been BBM-ing and UMA-ing reliably (BBM more so that UMA) in San Jose for years.

Depending on the hotel, Wifi coverage can be excellent, good or spotty in certain rooms. For example, Hotel Amistad has about 10 access points, but in room 312 you can only get 2 with weak signals.

Watch out for those roaming charges though if you're using 3G.

As MiamiHeller said above, beware of very high data roaming charges from the US. If you have an unlocked phone, you might consider getting a prepaid (prepago) SIM from kolbi, Claro, or Movistar (CR carriers) to put into your BB for internet access when wifi isn't available. It would be much cheaper. You can purchase prepago sims almost anywhere, usually at small markets.
