Man... Nevermind the issue of marrying a DR girl in the first place, if you want to marry ANY woman from ANY country you need to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. The fiancee visa is the only way to go. Sadly, there are too many people who think that getting married assures you of priority. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have a friend, female, who married a SWEDE of all things, high education, good job, all that, and it took them over a YEAR to get him the visa. Fiancee visa is simple and you get to change your mind if you don't like how she reacts to the USA. No matter what you do down here, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! too many guys act in haste and repent in leisure. |

I'm not that far yet but I can tell you that marriage in the girls home country ain't the answer. The process ain't cheap and I can see how this is a pain in the a*s. It appears that the quickest way is to do the fiance visa. I have spoken to an attorney and the turn around time for that can be as short as 5 months. The idea of marriage in her home country can take as long as 8 months..six at the least. If she has a ch*ld that she wants to bring along.. you have yourself a genuine cluster f*ck. It is estimated that only 40% of these situations lead to a visa because of the frustration and hassle and expense involved. I wish Marriage MongerI good luck. I've done some homework and I want to drop out of school. Don't let the girl deceive you into thinking it won't be a problem. Mine thinks 2 or 3 months max. Honey, you are incorrect..an IMMIGRATION attorney gave me this info and his firm does 1000 cases a year. And just a side note, if I use their services (granted, this will be full service even after marriage) the cost will be $1800 and with the bambino tack on an extra $500. dapanz1 |

Personally I think a pistol with a single bullet is cheaper and much more effective. lol (and you have a choice in which direction to point it .) I do know a friend of my ex-roommate who did bring a Dominican to the States on a fiance visa successfully and then married her. So that is clearly the most efficient way to do it for those of you interested. See,I have changed my attitude towards this marraige thing. Instead of screaming at the guys who want to do it,I am now encouraging them to do it quickly and get it over with. (hmmm just like suicide) |

Dapanz1 is partially correct regarding the time and cost involved in obtaining a fiancee visa. While it is perhaps simpler than other methods, it definitely is not an easy process! About four years ago a buddy of mine obtained a fiancee visa for a 'BM chica' (and her three offspring). The process took about five months, and cost around $2,000. Keep in mind that this was before '9/11'. There is much paperwork/forms involved, including police records, medical requirements, etc. Once (if) they are granted the fiancee visa, the marriage has to take place within 60 days after her arrival in the US. In my buddy's case, things went well for the first couple of weeks, then all Hell broke loose. Much fighting, etc. She even called the police on him once after a heated argument. He was lucky he wasn't arrested. After a couple more weeks, he sent her and her offspring back to CR. |

A couple of "corrections" to what Gringotim wrote regarding a Fiancee visa (K-1, Form I-129F). The total cost for processing the paperwork, medical exam and visa are less than $600 if you do it yourself, which anyone with access to the internet should be able to do. The K-1 visa is valid for 6 months from the date of issue but is only valid for 90 days from the day she arrives in the USA. Of course getting visas for the K*ds will add to the hassle, paperwork and expense. |

Witling...you are correct in stating that if you do everything yourself, the cost is probably around $600, but when you add up all the ancillary expenses, such as the airfare for bringing the chica and her offspring here, the total costs can easily approach or even exceed a couple of grand. |

I concur that the fiancee visa is the best way to go. I personally have used that approach and it went smooth as silk. I did hire an attorney to do the paperwork which increased the cost but it was very comforting knowing that an attorney was with us when we went for the interview for her green card. Just remember that if you go this route - she better be the one because the INS frowns on guys trying to keep getting girls in on this visa and not marrying them. Good luck Mighty1 |

Let's do the math: 7 nights in the gulch: Air...........................$410 (or more) Hotel.......................$420 std room at the Prez with CRT discount Taxi (2) and dep. tax.$50 Food & drinks..........$210 (or more) average $30 a day Fun & games...........$610 (or more) 4 trips to ZB and 6 others @ $75 each Total......................$1700 This doesn't include room upgrade, chica charges, additional taxi fees, tips, gifts, souvenirs, gambling or trips to strip clubs. Getting a K-1 visa: Paperwork processing, medical exam, fingerprints, visa..@ $600 Airfare to the US (fiancee only)........................................@ $600 Marriage (if you don't go overboard)...............................@ $500 Total..................................................................................$1700 Lifetime of happiness.....................................................Priceless See? It's all relative. |

Fiance visa seems the best since you try before you buy, but what happens if she disappears in the United States, aren't you responsible for her as her "sponsor"? Another question, if I get a girl knocked up in Costa Rica I know they can hold me if I go back to Costa Rica. What if I stay in the states and send her Ch*ld support? Hey I can still go to Rio. Just asking.... |
