Going to be spending 5 or 6 days on Osa Peninsula in a couple weeks and will have some free time to kill. Staying at Bosque del Cabo which is on the Puerto Jimenez side of the Gulf and on my last trip there it was obvious that there's not a whole lot to do in Puerto Jimenez so was simply wondering from those of you that may have been to Golfito whether there's anything to do there for a day? Is Golfito a larger town than Puerto Jimenez? I assume any chica fun is out of the question but I don't know since never been there. Any comments appreciated. Just trying to think of things to do. Thx. |

OK, this is extremely dated information, but what the heck, in my opinion, it is a cool town and would be all Yuppified, if it was in the states. There used to be a small ferry (not a short queer) that would transport passengers back and forth between PJ and Golfito and if it is still running, it would be a kick to take it. There is the old banana houses, a couple of bars, resturants and hotels and of course, the free zone. As I recall there were also a few working gals. Definitely worth an overnighter. ![]() ![]() |

There are two ferrys now... the fast one and the slow one... guess which one is cheaper? They run in the early mornning and late afternoon. Maybe 4 trips a day, so you need to plan for that, you can also hire a water taxi if needed... 30-50 bucks I have found that every small town in Costa Rica has a bar that has a girl or two hanging around looking for a few bucks... not the bests but ![]() Look for the place that you can not see into In PJ the place is by Juanitas on the corner on the other side of the street, and a place called the Taven Tico Bars Due to the remotness of the OSA gringos are a sought after .. keep that in mind Golfito is worth the trip... if you have nothing better to do Hope this helps... and bringing sand to the beach... she will stand out more than you do... small towns ![]() |

Go to Paseo Canoas if you are in Golfito. It's the main border town between CR and Panama. Sh*t hole of a place but you can find plenty of P4P there. Not high end mind you..think 4's and 5's and an occasional 6 or 7. Very occasional. Plenty of short term hotels there as well. dapanz1 |

My dream trip and there's talk of an airport, so probably not going to get there in my lifetime. |

Go to a gringo bar/restaurant like Los Palmos located on the bay and spend lots of money and pretty soon word gets out. Lots of local hotties will show up. Most will be amateurs and probably know little english but lots of fun. By the end of the week, it should be party central. Lovely town but all towns have a dark side. Just let the word get out and things happen. Enjoy |

I spent 4 months in 1976 across the bay from Golfito at Playa de Cacao, in the days that United Brands Fruit Co was still operating there. I returned in 2009 and again in July 2011 on my way to the Osa. I did the barmaid at the bar on the right at the north end of the main street in July. Sorry I can't remember the details other than I remember seeing her walking to work and thought I would like to do that woman and wouldn't you know I was a few hours later. Golfito is a shithole and unless you are into fishing don't go there. It is hot as a pistol there. There is even less action in Puerto Jimenez but at least there is a breeze if you are near the beach. The only reason to go there is it's a jumping-off place to parks in the Osa. |

Not that I'm Mr. Monetizer but EVERYBODY shopping in the free-zone in Golfito gets the tax-free exclusion. Know anybody that wants to upgrade TV/AC/refrigerator in SJO?--at a good price? (and yes, Golfito merchants or friends will ship). You still wanna be real careful here--this is CR. P.S. Shitholes can be your friend--think Hemingway, Conrad, London and other writers-as/because-experiencers-of-frontiers. Shop up, fish up, drink up. |

Jazzbo, you named all of my favorite writers, except Steinbeck. You haven't posted much lately, you always have great help for everyone. Thanks, and hope to meet you sometime. |
